عَمَِّ 1498 اَلتَّکْوِیْرَ
َ وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ ﴿۱۳﴾ عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ ﴿۱۴﴾ فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ ﴿۱۵﴾ الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ ﴿۱۶﴾ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ ﴿۱۷﴾
﴾13﴿ Wa izal jannatu uzlifat
﴾14﴿ Alimat nafsum maaa ahdarat
﴾15﴿ Falaaa uqsimu bil khunnas
﴾16﴿ Al jawaaril kunnas
﴾17﴿ Wallaili izaa 'as'as
﴾13﴿ And when Paradise is brought near
﴾14﴿ Every soul will know what it has brought forth
﴾15﴿ But no! I swear by the retreating stars
﴾16﴿ That move swiftly and disappear in the night
﴾17﴿ And by the night as it departs
[13] This is the sixth state, completing all twelve states.
(أُزْلِفَتْ) — means Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, as mentioned in Surah Qāf (50:31).
That is, the believers will also be moving toward Paradise, as in Surah Az-Zumar (39:73), and Paradise will be brought near to them as well.
[14] This is the conclusion to the twelve states beginning from (إِذَا الشَّمْسُ).
(أَحْضَرَتْ) — the meaning of being brought forth refers to the deeds done in the world, so the attribution is literal.
Or it may mean that the deeds are made present in the record of deeds and for reckoning — in which case the attribution to the person is metaphorical.
[15,16] This is an oath affirming the truthfulness of the Messenger and the Qur’an, by the states of the stars — their rising, movement, and setting.
The better view is that it refers to all stars, as these three conditions apply to all of them.
The claim that only seven stars move while the rest remain stationary has no authentic proof.
[17,18] These are also oaths, and they are connected to the previous ones, because night is the time when stars appear, and day is when they become hidden.
(تَنَفَّسَ) — Tanaffus originally refers to the kind of breathing that brings relief and comfort to the body.
It is as if the night resembles sorrow and grief, and the arrival of morning is like a breath of relief and joy.
The intended meaning is that dawn appears and stretches, turning into full daylight.
