َقَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ 1319 الواقعة

َ عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ ﴿۱۵﴾ مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ ﴿۱۶﴾ يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ ﴿۱۷﴾ بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ ﴿۱۸﴾ لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ ﴿۱۹﴾ وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ ﴿۲۰﴾ وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ ﴿۲۱﴾ وَحُورٌ عِينٌ ﴿۲۲﴾ كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ ﴿۲۳﴾ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۲۴﴾

﴾15﴿ 'Alaa sururim mawdoonah
﴾16﴿ Muttaki'eena 'alaihaa mutaqabileen
﴾17﴿ Yatoofu 'alaihim wildaa num mukhalladoon
﴾18﴿ Bi akwaabinw wa abaareeq, wa kaasim mim ma'een
﴾19﴿ Laa yusadda'oona 'anhaa wa laa yunzifoon
﴾20﴿ Wa faakihatim mimmaa yatakhaiyaroon
﴾21﴿ Wa lahmi tairim mimmaa yashtahoon
﴾22﴿ Wa hoorun'een
﴾23﴿ Ka amsaalil lu'lu'il maknoon
﴾24﴿ Jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon

﴾15﴿ They will be on thrones woven with golden threads
﴾16﴿ They will recline on them, facing one another
﴾17﴿ Eternal youths will circulate among them
﴾18﴿ With goblets, jugs, and cups filled with pure wine
﴾19﴿ That neither causes headache nor leads to intoxication
﴾20﴿ And they will have fruits of whatever kind they desire
﴾21﴿ And they will have the meat of birds of whatever kind they desire
﴾22﴿ And they will have fair-eyed Hūr (maidens)
﴾23﴿ Like well-preserved pearls
﴾24﴿ They will be rewarded for the deeds they used to do

[15,16] (مُتَقَابِلِينَ) – they will be seated facing one another in gatherings. There will be no barrier between them, and this indicates that they will never feel sorrow or grief from one another. Their ranks will also be close to each other.
[17,18] (وِلْدَانٌ) – this refers to the children of polytheists who died before reaching puberty. According to another opinion, it also includes the children of Muslims. Or it may refer to those who were created in Paradise specifically to serve the people of Paradise.
(مُخَلَّدُونَ) – they are everlasting; they will neither perish nor grow old, nor will their state ever change.
(مَعِينٍ) – like flowing springs, or meaning they are clear and abundant, so there is no need to squeeze or exert effort to draw it.
[19] (وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ) – it is narrated from Ḍaḥḥāk that worldly wine has four harmful qualities: headache, vomiting, intoxication, and increased urination. The wine of Paradise is free from all these evils.
[20] This is a conjunction to akwāb (goblets), and bijārah (with a jug) is omitted.
(يَتَخَيَّرُونَ) – it means that there will be many types of fruits in great variety, and everyone will eat according to their own desire. Or it may mean that the fruits are chosen and of the best and most pleasing kind.
[21] Question: What is the wisdom in mentioning (يَتَخَيَّرُونَ) (they choose) with fruits and (يَشْتَهُونَ) (they desire) with meat?
Answer: In the world, when both are presented to a hungry person, they desire meat. But when offered to someone who is full, they are inclined toward fruits. The people of Paradise do not eat out of hunger, but rather for enjoyment and delight. For this reason, fruits are mentioned before meat—opposite to the order found in the world.
[22,23] (الْمَكْنُونِ) – meaning that which has been kept hidden, untouched by dust and untouched by any hands.
[24] (جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ) – outward deeds are the apparent cause of the reward, while the mercy of Allah, the Most High, is the true cause. Therefore, attributing the reward to both is correct.
