[7] In this, three other evils of the deniers of the Qur'an are mentioned, along with a warning. It emphasizes the intensity of their denial—meaning the person himself is heedless of the Qur'an, but even when someone tries to awaken him from his heedlessness by explaining the Qur'an, he arrogantly turns away. In essence, he makes no effort to understand the Qur'an and refuses to listen to it from others as well.
[8,9] In this, the guidance is mentioned for the first group.
[10] This is the first rational proof for monotheism, and in it, six great blessings are mentioned, which indicate that Allah is the Almighty, the Wise. “Pair” refers to the various types of plants and trees, and since most plants resemble each other, the term “pair” is used. “Honorable” refers to the benefits they provide, such as for food, clothing, and other needs.
[11] This inference is based on reasoning and is a refutation of the polytheists: your deities are incapable of creating (bringing anything into existence), so how can you consider them worthy of worship?
[12] This is a transmitted (naqli) argument for monotheism, and it points out that the belief and way of the polytheists not only contradict the path of the prophets, but also oppose the path of the wise.
Wisdom is in contrast to injustice, because injustice is the misuse of something in an improper place, while wisdom is to use it in its proper place. For this reason, after rejecting the wrongdoers, matters of wisdom are mentioned.
As for Luqman bin Ba'ura: there is a difference of opinion about whether he was a prophet or a saint. The correct view is that he was a friend of Allah (waliullah). In a narration from ‘Ikrimah which says he was a prophet, the chain of narration includes Jabir bin Jufi, who is a weak narrator.
Most commentators have written that he was a black carpenter slave from Abyssinia. Luqman was the nephew (or the son of the sister) of Ayyub (peace be upon him), and he had learned some knowledge from Dawud (peace be upon him). Allah the Exalted taught him much wisdom through divine inspiration.
“Al-Hikmah” (wisdom) is knowledge that is mature and accompanied by action—placing everything in its proper place and knowing the benefits of things. This is wisdom.
Along with it is the command “Be grateful to Allah,” meaning: to acknowledge Allah’s favors and use them in ways that please Him. This is the great wisdom. Explaining knowledge and inviting others is also gratitude for knowledge. In the following verses, the details of wisdom and gratitude are explained.
