وَقَالَ الَّذِينَْ 881 الشعراء
طسم ﴿۱﴾ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ ﴿۲﴾ لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۳﴾ إِنْ نَشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ آيَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خَاضِعِينَ ﴿۴﴾ وَمَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ ﴿۵﴾

﴾2﴿ Tilka Aayaatul Kitaabil Mubeen
﴾3﴿ La'allaka baakhi'un nafsaka allaa yakoonoo mu'mineen
﴾4﴿ In nashaa nunazzil 'alaihim minas samaaa'i Aayatan fazallat a'naaquhum lahaa khaadi'een
﴾5﴿ Wa maa yaateehim min zikrim minar Rahmaani muhdasin illaa kaanoo 'anhu mu'rideen
﴾1﴿ Taa-Seeen-Meeem
﴾2﴿ These are the verses of the clear Book
﴾3﴿ Will you, perhaps, destroy yourself with grief because they do not believe
﴾4﴿ If We will, We can send down upon them a sign from the sky, and their necks will remain humbled before it
﴾5﴿ And no reminder comes to them from the Most Merciful, newly revealed, but they turn away from it
Relevancy:
This surah, along with the previous one in which the greatness of "Tabarak" was mentioned, now provides consolation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by describing the descent of punishment upon the deniers and the salvation of the believers. It also presents scriptural evidence to support this matter.
Claim of this surah:
Consolation to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is provided in multiple ways:
first Through the destruction of the deniers and the salvation of the believers.
second By affirming the truthfulness of the Messenger at the end of the surah and addressing seven doubts raised against him.
Summary of the surah:
This chapter has three sections:
The first section goes up to verse (10), which encourages adherence to the Qur'an. Then, the claim of the chapter is mentioned. After that, there are three warnings: The first warning is about turning away. The second warning is about denying. The third warning is about rejecting logical reasoning.
Finally, the claim of the chapter is elaborated upon in two verses.
[1] This is from the Muqatta‘at (disjointed letters). It is better to say that we do not know its meaning, and its purpose is to indicate the miraculous nature of the Holy Qur'an at the beginning of the chapter.
[2]In this verse, there is encouragement toward the Qur'an and the content of this chapter. The term (المُبِينِ) refers to the events of the prophets, peace be upon them, as evidence derived from transmitted (revealed) proofs.
[3,4] In this, the claim of the chapter is presented, meaning it serves as a consolation to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), reminding him not to destroy himself with grief over their denial. Their faith is under Allah’s control, yet Allah does not compel them, as coerced faith is not the intended goal. Regarding (أَعْنَاقُهُمْ), it can have three possible meanings: leaders, large groups, or necks. In (إِنْ نَشَأْ), the object is omitted, and it can be understood as (الإيمان بالجبر), meaning compelled faith. In (فَظَلَّتْ), the verb ظل indicates continuity and permanence, coupled with the evident nature of the matter.
[5,6] In this warning, three actions are addressed: turning away (اعراض), denial (تکذیب), and mockery (استهزاء).
The term (مُحْدَثٍ) refers to something new—either newly revealed or considered new in their perception. A similar reference is found in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:2). However, in Surah Al-Anbiya, the details of heedless people were the focus, which is why يلعبون (they play) is mentioned there.
In this chapter, the focus is on those who turn away and reject the truth. Therefore, after this, the past nations are mentioned—those who turned away and denied the message. This is why مِعرِضُونَ (those who turn away) is mentioned here.
Regarding (أَنْبَاءُ), which is the plural of نباء, it refers to significant and momentous news—specifically the news of grave importance, which here alludes to punishment (عذاب).
