وَقَالَ الَّذِينَْ 880 الفرقان
خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا حَسُنَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا ﴿۷۶﴾ قُلْ مَا يَعْبَأُ بِكُمْ رَبِّي لَوْلَا دُعَاؤُكُمْ فَقَدْ كَذَّبْتُمْ فَسَوْفَ يَكُونُ لِزَامًا ﴿۷۷﴾
﴾76﴿ Khaalideena feehaa; hasunat mustaqarranw wa muqaamaa
﴾77﴿ Qul maa ya'ba'u bikum Rabbee law laa du'aaa'ukum faqad kazzabtum fasawfa yakoonu lizaamaa
﴾76﴿ They will abide therein forever. How excellent is this abode of residence and permanence
﴾77﴿ Say, What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication? But you have denied, so the punishment will be inevitable
[77] In this verse, there is a worldly warning for anyone who denies or opposes the previously mentioned attributes and rejects the purpose of this surah.
In this verse, there are various interpretations: "ما" can be an interrogative meaning denial, or it can be a negation, and the purpose of both is the same.
"بِكُمْ" means “with your punishment” or “with your forgiveness.”
"دُعَاؤُكُمْ" has four interpretations:
1. Your worship, as mentioned in the previous qualities—here, "du‘ā’" means worship.
2. Your seeking help from Allah in times of distress—in both of these, the term "du‘ā’" is attributed to the subject (i.e., you).
3. Allah’s call to you towards monotheism—here, "du‘ā’" is attributed to the object (i.e., you were called).
4. Your calling upon other than Allah in a polytheistic manner—in this case, "du‘ā’" is again attributed to the subject.
With the first three interpretations, "بِكُمْ" means “with your punishment,” and in the fourth meaning, it implies “with your forgiveness.”
Here is the detailed meaning in each case:
First meaning: Allah does not care or why should He care about your punishment if you had worshipped Him in the way of the servants of the Most Merciful (this address is to the believers).
فَقَدْ كَذَّبْتُمْ: So you (disbelievers) denied this way of worship, and soon the punishment will cling to you.
Second meaning: Allah does not care or why should He care about your punishment if you had called upon Him in hardship, but then you committed shirk, so soon the punishment will cling to you.
Third meaning: Allah does not care or why should He care about your punishment if He had not called you towards monotheism, but you denied Allah’s call—so soon the punishment will cling to you.
Fourth meaning: Why should Allah care or not care about your forgiveness if you had not called upon others besides Allah in your needs and hardships? But you committed shirk, so soon the punishment will cling to you.
