رُبَمَاٍ 626 اَلنَّحْل
وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ وَمِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرَدُّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ لِكَيْ لَا يَعْلَمَ بَعْدَ عِلْمٍ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ ﴿۷۰﴾ وَاللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الرِّزْقِ فَمَا الَّذِينَ فُضِّلُوا بِرَادِّي رِزْقِهِمْ عَلَى مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيهِ سَوَاءٌ أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ ﴿۷۱﴾ وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَتِ اللَّهِ هُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ ﴿۷۲﴾
﴾70﴿ Wallaahu khalaqakum suma yatawaffaakum; wa minkum many-yuradu ilaaa arzalil 'umuri likai laa ya'lama ba'da 'ilmin shai'aa; innal laaha 'Aleemun Qadeer
﴾71﴿ Wallaahu faddala ba'dakum 'alaa ba'din fir rizq; famal lazeena fuddiloo biraaaddee rizqihim 'alaa maa malakat aimaanuhum fahum feehi sawaaa'; afabini'matil laahi yajhadoon
﴾72﴿ Wallaahu ja'ala lakum min anfusikum azwaajanw wa ja'ala lakum min azwaajikum baneena wa hafadatanw wa razaqakum minat taiyibaat; afabil baatili yu'minoona wa bini'matil laahi hum yakkfuroon
﴾70﴿ And Allah created you, then He will cause you to die. And among you is he who is brought back to the most decrepit age, so that he knows nothing after having known (much). Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful
﴾71﴿ And Allah has favored some of you over others in provision. But those who have been favored do not share their provision with their slaves so that they become equal in it. Then is it the favor of Allah that they deny
﴾72﴿ And Allah created for you spouses from among yourselves and made for you, from your spouses, children and grandchildren, and provided for you from the good and pure things. Then is it falsehood they believe in and the favors of Allah they deny
[70] This is also a rational argument.
"(أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ)" ("the most decrepit age") refers to the stage when a person's strengths diminish, intellect becomes ineffective, and knowledge fades away; this condition is also called senility (هرم).
In an authentic Hadith, it is narrated: "I seek refuge with You from senility (هرم)."
Some commentators have stated that this condition does not afflict the believer, citing as evidence verses (5,6) of Surah At-Tin and also verse (5) of Surah Al-Hajj.
"(إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ)" ("Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing") indicates that there is no deficiency in Allah's knowledge.
"(قَدِيرٌ)" ("All-Powerful") signifies that creation, death, and aging are all proofs of Allah’s power.
[71] Since the previous verse mentioned items of sustenance, this verse now addresses differences in sustenance.
In the first sentence of this verse, it is explicitly stated that Allah’s system operates through differentiation—He makes some people wealthy and others poor, some free and others slaves. Similar meaning appears in verse (165) of Surah Al-An'am and verse (32) of Surah Az-Zukhruf.
Additionally, in this verse, an example is provided to refute polytheism (shirk) based on differences in sustenance. This is also mentioned in verse (28) of Surah Ar-Rum.
The essence of the example is that no human owner would ever grant his servant enough wealth to make him equal in authority and control. Therefore, how can polytheists claim that Allah has given some of His servants—such as angels, prophets, and saints—authority equal to His own, enabling them to fulfill people's needs and solve their problems just as He does?
This belief is a denial of Allah’s blessings. The example provided specifically refutes the concept of shirk through attributing divine authority to others (shirk al-'Atāī).
[72] This is also a rational argument, describing the blessings of spouses and offspring.
"(مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ)" ("from yourselves") means "from your own kind," indicating that marriage between humans and jinn is not permissible due to the difference in their nature.
"(حَفَدَةً)" ("grandchildren" or "attendants") refers to grandchildren and servants, as "خفد" (hafd) originally means service.
In the expression "(لَكُمْ)" ("for you"), there is an indication that lineage of children is attributed to their fathers.
"(أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ)" ("Then is it in falsehood") refers to false gods whom polytheists believe have granted them spouses, children, and wealth, attributing these blessings to their idols rather than to Allah Most High.
