رُبَمَاٍ 627 اَلنَّحْل
وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًا مِنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ﴿۷۳﴾ فَلَا تَضْرِبُوا لِلَّهِ الْأَمْثَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۷۴﴾
﴾73﴿ Wa ya'budoona min doonil laahi maa laa yamliku lahum rizqam minas samaawaati wal ardi shai'anw wa laa yastatee'oon
﴾74﴿ Falaa tadriboo lillaahil amsaal; innal laaha ya'lamu wa antum laa ta'lamoon
﴾73﴿ And they worship besides Allah those who cannot provide them with any sustenance from the heavens or the earth, nor are they able to do so
﴾74﴿ So do not attribute comparisons to Allah. Indeed, Allah knows, and you do not know
[73] In this verse, attention is drawn to polytheism in worship (shirk fil-'ibadah) and polytheism in control and influence (shirk fit-tasarruf).
This verse explains the previous one "(أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ)" ("Then is it in falsehood that they believe?"), meaning that believing firmly in falsehood involves acts like worshiping idols, prostration, circumambulation, making vows at graves, and other polytheistic actions.
"(لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًا مِنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ)" ("They possess no provision for them from the heavens and the earth") means these false gods have no authority over sending down rain from the sky or causing plants and crops to grow from the earth for their own benefit.
"(وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ)" ("nor are they capable") indicates that these false gods have no power to benefit others either—or that they have no ability now, nor any hope for such ability in the future.
[74] This verse refutes all polytheists and unbelievers who compare Allah Most High to His creation.
For example, they claim that just as one cannot approach an influential person without an intermediary or intercessor who has status and friendship with that person, similarly, they argue, one cannot approach Allah without intermediaries, believing righteous servants to be necessary intercessors.
This verse also refutes anthropomorphists (Mujassimah) and likeners (Mushabbihah), who compare Allah's attributes to those of creation and attribute a physical body to Him. Similar refutations appear in verse (11) of Surah Ash-Shura and verse (4) of Surah Al-Ikhlas.
"(إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ)" ("Indeed, Allah knows") provides the reason for the preceding statement, meaning that Allah cannot be compared to creation, because created beings do not have comprehensive knowledge of everything; they lack awareness of people's needs and conditions, and therefore require intermediaries. However, Allah possesses complete knowledge of all things.
Furthermore, Allah fully knows His own attributes and status. If He provides an example concerning Himself, it is accurate and appropriate. On the contrary, creation does not have complete knowledge of Allah's attributes, hence they cannot present accurate examples or comparisons about Allah.
