رُبَمَاٍ 622 اَلنَّحْل

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ الْبَنَاتِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَلَهُمْ مَا يَشْتَهُونَ ﴿۵۷﴾ وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُمْ بِالْأُنْثَى ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ ﴿۵۸﴾ يَتَوَارَى مِنَ الْقَوْمِ مِنْ سُوءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِ أَيُمْسِكُهُ عَلَى هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُ فِي التُّرَابِ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ ﴿۵۹﴾ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ وَلِلَّهِ الْمَثَلُ الْأَعْلَى وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ ﴿۶۰﴾

﴾57﴿ Wa yaj'aloona lillaahil banaati Subhaanahoo wa lahum maa yashtahoon
﴾58﴿ Wa izaa bushshira ahaduhum bil unsaa zalla wajhuhoo muswaddanw wa huwa kazeem
﴾59﴿ yatawaaraa minal qawmimin sooo'i maa bushshira bih; a-yumsikuhoo 'alaa hoonin am yadussuhoo fit turaab; alaa saaa'a maa yahkumoon
﴾60﴿ Lillazeena laa yu'minoona bil Aakhirati masalus saw'i wa lillaahil masalul a'laa; wa Huwal 'Azeezul Hakeem9

﴾57﴿ And they assign daughters to Allah, exalted is He, while for themselves they assign what they desire
﴾58﴿ And when one of them is given the news of the birth of a daughter, his face darkens, and he is filled with ange
﴾59﴿ He hides himself from the people because of the bad news he has been given, (wondering): Should he keep her in humiliation, or bury her in the ground? Behold, evil is what they decide
﴾60﴿ Those who do not believe in the Hereafter have an evil state, while to Allah belongs the highest attribute. And He is the All-Mighty, All-Wise

[57] This is also connected to the previous verse and refutes another type of shirk. In this verse, there is a warning to those polytheists who considered angels as daughters of Allah. These were certain tribes among the Arab polytheists. Similar references are found in verse (149) of Surah As-Saffat, verse (16) of Surah Az-Zukhruf, and verse (39) of Surah At-Tur.
[58] This verse refutes the ignorant custom of considering the birth of daughters and sisters as something bad.
(كَظِيمٌ) refers to someone so distressed that they cannot speak due to sadness.
(بُشِّرَ) originally means receiving good news, but here it refers to the initial announcement of news that they did not find pleasing.
[59] In this verse, the practice of the age of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) is mentioned: when news of the birth of a daughter was given to them, they hid themselves out of embarrassment and pondered whether to keep her in humiliation or bury her alive. (أَيُمْسِكُهُ) implies an omitted phrase beforehand—meaning "he contemplates." The masculine pronoun "هُ" refers back to "مَا بُشِّرَ" (that which he was informed of). (Hūn - هُونٍ) signifies that they would keep the daughter in humiliation, prefer sons over her, and deny inheritance to women.
[60] In this verse, there is a reprimand directed toward the polytheists regarding the angels. (مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ) refers to bad attributes or conditions, implying ignorance, disbelief, and the like. (الْمَثَلُ الْأَعْلَى) refers to lofty attributes, whether they are affirmative attributes such as being the Creator, the Provider, the All-Knowing, the Omnipotent, or negative attributes (attributes of transcendence), meaning He has no partners, no offspring, and none is comparable to Him.
