وَمَا أُبَرِّئٍُ 552 یوسف

قَالَ لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ ﴿۹۲﴾ اذْهَبُوا بِقَمِيصِي هَذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَى وَجْهِ أَبِي يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِي بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ﴿۹۳﴾ وَلَمَّا فَصَلَتِ الْعِيرُ قَالَ أَبُوهُمْ إِنِّي لَأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلَا أَنْ تُفَنِّدُونِ ﴿۹۴﴾ قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلَالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ ﴿۹۵﴾ فَلَمَّا أَنْ جَاءَ الْبَشِيرُ أَلْقَاهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَارْتَدَّ بَصِيرًا قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۹۶﴾ قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا اسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا خَاطِئِينَ ﴿۹۷﴾

﴾92﴿ Qaala laa tathreeba 'alaikumul yawma yaghfirul laahu lakum wa Huwa arhamur raahimeen
﴾93﴿ Izhaboo biqameesee haazaa fa alqoohu 'alaa wajhi abee ya'ti baseeranw wa'toonee bi ahlikum ajma'een
﴾94﴿ Wa lammaa fasalatil 'eeru qaala aboohum innee la ajidu reeha Yoosufa law laaa an tufannidoon
﴾95﴿ Qaaloo tallaahi innaka lafee dalaalikal qadeem
﴾96﴿ Falammaaa an jaaa'albasheeru alqaahu 'alaa wajhihee fartadda baseeran qaala alam aqul lakum inneee a'lamu minal laahi maa laa ta'lamoon
﴾97﴿ Qaaloo yaaa abaanas taghfir lanaa zunoobanaa innaa kunnaa khaati'een

﴾92﴿ He said, No blame will there be upon you today. May Allah forgive you, and He is the most merciful of the merciful
﴾93﴿ Take this shirt of mine and cast it over my father's face; he will regain his sight. Then bring me all your family together
﴾94﴿ And when the caravan departed (from the vicinity of Egypt), their father said, Indeed, I sense the scent of Yusuf (Joseph), if you do not think me to be senile
﴾95﴿ They said, By Allah, you are certainly in your old delusion
﴾96﴿ Then when the bearer of good news arrived, he cast the shirt over his face, and his vision was restored. He said, Did I not tell you that I know from Allah that which you do not know
﴾97﴿ They said, O our father, ask forgiveness for our sins. Indeed, we were wrongdoers

[92] It is from the noble traits of prophethood that prophets forgive those who have wronged them.
Similarly, the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), on the day of the conquest of Makkah, said: "I say to you what Yusuf (peace be upon him) said to his brothers."
(تَثْرِيبَ) means reproach and blame for sins that were committed.
(الْيَوْمَ) — "today" refers to the present moment, implying: “Today is the time for blame,” but by saying “there is no blame today,” it means there will never be any blame — complete forgiveness is granted.
(يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ) — this is a supplicative sentence (جمله دعائیه), meaning “May Allah forgive you.”
And (وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ) is the reason (علت) for that supplication — emphasizing that He is the Most Merciful of the merciful, and therefore forgiveness is hoped from Him.
[93] The sending of the shirt was based on divine revelation (waḥy), and through it, the healing of Ya‘qub’s (peace be upon him) eyesight took place.
It is commonly said that this shirt was inherited from Ibrahim (peace be upon him), but there is no definitive evidence to support this claim.
[94] From this verse up to verse 98 is the eleventh section (maqām).
In this section, the following events are mentioned: Ya‘qub (peace be upon him) sensing the scent of Yusuf, the arrival of the good news (bashārah), and the sons asking their father for forgiveness, followed by the father’s promise to pray for them.
Ya‘qub's sensing of Yusuf’s scent was a miraculous event (khāriq al-‘ādah), not based on knowledge of the unseen (ʿilm al-ghayb).
[95] In (قَالُوا), those being referred to are the relatives and grandchildren of Ya‘qub (peace be upon him), because his sons were not present at the time.
As for (ضَلَالِكَ) — in this verse, "ḍalāl" means love or deep emotional attachment, not misguidance.
This is because attributing misguidance to a prophet is an act of disbelief (kufr), and thus ḍalāl here refers to the intense love Ya‘qub (peace be upon him) had for Yusuf.
[96] The meaning of (الْبَشِيرُ) is the one who had previously brought Yusuf’s shirt stained with blood — now returning with the true shirt bearing good news.
(فَارْتَدَّ بَصِيرًا) means that the illness of Ya‘qub’s (peace be upon him) eyes was removed, and his sight was restored.
In (أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ), there is a reference to the statement Ya‘qub made earlier in verse 86, where he said: “I complain of my sorrow and grief only to Allah, and I know from Allah what you do not know.”
[97] In this verse, there is evidence that seeking a means (tawassul) through the du‘ā of a living and present person is permissible.
The sons of Ya‘qub (peace be upon him) asked their father — a prophet and alive among them — to pray for their forgiveness, and he accepted with the words: “Soon I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord.”
This affirms the validity of making tawassul through righteous living individuals.
