وَمَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ 422 یوسف
إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ ﴿۴﴾ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَى إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُوا لَكَ كَيْدًا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ ﴿۵﴾
﴾4﴿ Iz qaala Yoosufu li abeehi yaaa abati innee ra aytu ahada 'ashara kawkabanw wash shamsa walqamara ra aytuhum lee saajideen
﴾5﴿ Qaala yaa bunaiya laa taqsus ru'yaaka 'alaaa ikhwatika fayakeedoo laka kaidaa; innash Shaitaana lil insaani 'aduwwum mubeen
﴾4﴿ When Prophet Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, said to his father, O my father, indeed I have seen (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me
﴾5﴿ He said, O my son, do not relate your dream to your brothers, lest they devise a plot against you. Indeed, Satan is a clear enemy to mankind
[4] In this verse, the dream of Yusuf (peace be upon him) is mentioned, which later became reality.
This verse is used in two ways: first, referring to the essence of the stars, and second, to their state.
The eleven stars refer to the brothers of Yusuf (peace be upon him), because stars have little light, and similarly, after repentance, a little light of guidance came to them.
The "sun" refers to his father, just as sunlight is complete, so too is the light of prophethood complete.
The "moon" refers to the mother of Yusuf (peace be upon him), just as the moonlight is moderate, likewise, the light of the spiritual authority of the mother of Yusuf (peace be upon him) was moderate.
And some scholars have said the opposite, because the sun is feminine and the moon is masculine, but here the consideration is based on their light, not on the grammatical gender of the words, so the first opinion is preferable.
[5] In this verse, the display of respect toward Yusuf (peace be upon him) regarding his dream is shown by advising him to keep it hidden.
This implies that Yaqub (peace be upon him) already knew the interpretation of the dream.
There are many benefits in this verse:
The first note: Some dreams are better kept hidden.
The second note: It is obligatory for every Muslim to warn their fellow Muslim brother in order to protect them from harm.
The third note: When harm is feared from someone, it is permissible to mention it to another person; this is not backbiting, because the intention is not to insult, but to warn.
The fourth note: The brothers of Yusuf (peace be upon him) were not prophets, because plotting and jealousy are major sins—and prophets (peace be upon them) are free from sins.
