يَعْتَذِرُونَ 448 التوبة
وَإِذَا مَا أُنْزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ نَظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَاكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا صَرَفَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿۱۲۷﴾ لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ ﴿۱۲۸﴾ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُلْ حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ ﴿۱۲۹﴾
﴾127﴿ Wa izaa maaa unzilat Sooratun nazara ba'duhum ilaa ba'din hal yaraakum min ahadin thumman sarafoo; sarafal laahu quloobahum bi annahum qawmul laa yafqahoon
﴾128﴿ Laqad jaaa'akum Rasoolum min anfusikum 'azeezun 'alaihi maa 'anittum hareesun 'alaikum bilmu'mineena ra'oofur raheem
﴾129﴿ Fa in tawallaw faqul hasbiyal laahu laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa 'alaihi tawakkkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul 'Arshil 'Azeem
﴾127﴿ When a surah is revealed, you see some of them looking at each other (as if to say with their eyes), "Is anyone watching you?" Then they turn away. Allah has turned their hearts away (from guidance) because they are a people who do not understand
﴾128﴿ Indeed, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; it is difficult for him to bear your suffering. He is deeply concerned for your faith and, towards the believers, is most kind and merciful
﴾129﴿ So if they turn away, say: Sufficient for me is Allah. There is no deity except Him. In Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne
[127] This also describes the state of the hypocrites: when a surah is revealed about jihad and the vices of the hypocrites are mentioned, as in this surah, they try to flee from the gathering.
"Hal yarākum"—here, the word yushīrūn (they signal) is implied, meaning they secretly signal to one another with their eyes, asking whether the noble Companions are looking at them or not.
However, in the gathering of the Noble Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), the Companions would lower their heads, as if birds were sitting on them.
So the hypocrites would realize that they are not being watched. Before "thumma insarafū," this part is implied.
"Lā yafqahūn"—this is their trait also mentioned in verses 81 and 87 earlier.
[128] This expresses the truthfulness of the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and six qualities of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) are mentioned in it:
First, "Rasūl"—this indicates that he does not speak from himself, so following him is obligatory.
Second, "Min anfusikum"—this implies that acquiring knowledge from him is easy, because he is of the same kind as you.
Third, "Azīzun 'alayhi mā 'anittum"—meaning whatever burdens you causes him distress, and he becomes saddened by it.
This indicates that his way brings ease for the Ummah.
Fourth, "Harīsun 'alaykum"—meaning he strives for you to become believers and to enter Paradise.
Fifth, "Ra'ūf"—he is extremely kind to the believers and seeks prayers of protection for you.
Sixth, "Rahīm"—he is merciful to the believers.
These last two qualities indicate that he will intercede for the believers in the Hereafter, and even in this world his kindness and mercy are truly present.
[129] In this verse, the issue of monotheism is expressed in four statements.
The first statement is directed at the deniers, and here it also addresses all types of disbelievers and the wickedness of the hypocrites.
The second statement is the reason for the first.
The third is a conclusion drawn from the first two statements.
The fourth is the reason for the previous one.
And the Lordship of the Throne necessitates His Lordship over the entire universe.
