surah yunus
jonah

Relevancy: This passage explains that in the two preceding surahs (Surah Al-Anfal and Surah At-Tawbah), war was declared against the polytheists. In this surah (Surah Yunus), the essence of polytheism is addressed, explaining the cause for combat. It serves as an answer to the potential question of why Muslims fight them when they, too, claim to believe in Allah. The surah clarifies that the polytheists associate partners with Allah through the belief in coercive intercession, which is considered shirk (polytheism) and disbelief (kufr) - Additionally, while Surah At-Tawbah mentioned the polytheism of the idolaters and the People of the Book, as well as the hypocrisy of the hypocrites, this surah invites all of them to the concepts of monotheism (Tawheed), the Prophethood (Risalah), the Quran, and faith (Iman). Ultimately, it calls them to true belief -
Claim of this surah: The refutation of "compulsory intercession" (shafāʿat qahriyya) in verses 3 and 18 of the Qur'an is presented from several aspects, First Aspect: Logical Arguments, Second Aspect: Extensive Logical Arguments, Third Aspect: Scriptural Evidence, Fourth Aspect: Numerous Warnings, Fifth Aspect: The Moral Depravity of Polytheists, Sixth Aspect: Admission of Certain Attributes of God by Polytheists -
Summary of the surah: In this surah, there are three sections: The first section extends up to verse 54. The second section extends up to verse 70. The third section continues until the end. In the first section, there are three subsections:The first subsection extends up to verse 17. This subsection contains encouragement to follow the Book of Allah, six prohibitions, three rational arguments, glad tidings for those who accept it, and warnings of worldly and otherworldly consequences for those who reject it.

interpretation

In the first verse, there is encouragement toward the Qur'an. The term "الْحَكِيمِ" (Al-Hakim) carries multiple meanings: first With wisdom (wise), second Ruler (sovereign), third Firm (precise), The term "حكیم" (Hakim) indicates that in this chapter (Surah), rational arguments are presented, which constitute wisdom and logical reasoning -
This is a warning to those who deny the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), rejecting him on the basis that he is a man and a human being. This verse serves as evidence that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was indeed a man from among humans, and it mentions two of his roles: warning and giving glad tidings, (قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ) can have two meanings: a high rank or a good reward due to righteous deeds sent forth. It is referred to as "foot" (قدم) because effort and striving are accomplished with the feet. This also serves as a reminder of their false claim that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was a sorcerer, (أَنْذِرِ) refers to warning, which involves informing accompanied by fear, and (بَشِّرِ) refers to giving glad tidings, which involves informing accompanied by joy -
