يَعْتَذِرُونَ 436 التوبة
يَعْتَذِرُونَ إِلَيْكُمْ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ قُلْ لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكُمْ قَدْ نَبَّأَنَا اللَّهُ مِنْ أَخْبَارِكُمْ وَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۹۴﴾ سَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ لَكُمْ إِذَا انْقَلَبْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لِتُعْرِضُوا عَنْهُمْ فَأَعْرِضُوا عَنْهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ رِجْسٌ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿۹۵﴾ يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ فَإِنْ تَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَرْضَى عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِينَ ﴿۹۶﴾ الْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا حُدُودَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿۹۷﴾
﴾94﴿ Ya'taziroona ilaikum izaa raja'tum ilaihim; qul laa ta'taziroo lan nu'mina lakum qad nabba annal laahu min akhbaarikum; wa sa yaral laahu 'amalakum wa Rasooluhoo thumma turaddoona ilaa 'Aalimil Ghaibi washshahaadati fa yunabbi'ukum bimaa kuntum ta'maloon
﴾95﴿ Sa yahlifoona billaahi lakum izanqalabtum ilaihim litu'ridoo 'anhum fa a'ridoo 'anhum innahum rijsunw wa ma'waahum jahannamu jazaaa'an bi maakaanoo yaksiboon
﴾96﴿ Yahlifoona lakum litardaw 'anhum fa in tardaw 'anhum fa innal laaha laa yardaa 'anil qawmil faasiqeen
﴾97﴿ Al A'raabu ashaddu kufranw wa nifaaqanw wa ajdaru allaa ya'lamoo hudooda maaa anzalal laahu 'alaa Rasoolih; wallaahu 'Aleemun Hakeem
﴾94﴿ They will make false excuses for you. When you return to them, say, Don't make excuses. We will never believe you Allah Almighty has informed us of your circumstances, and Allah Almighty and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, see it. To Allah Almighty you will be returned He is the Knower of all that is hidden and all that is open, so He will inform you of what you used to do
﴾95﴿ Soon they will swear by Allah Almighty for you when you return to them, so that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them Indeed, they are evil, and their abode is Hell. They will be recompensed for what they did
﴾96﴿ They swear to you that you may be pleased with them. But if you are pleased with them, surely Allah is not pleased with a people who are disobedient
﴾97﴿ The Bedouin Arabs are more severe in disbelief and hypocrisy, and they deserve this statement that they do not know the meaning of the laws that Allah Almighty has revealed to His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. And Allah Almighty is Knowing, Wise
[94] This verse is a warning to the hypocrites, and it was revealed to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) during the Expedition of Tabuk.
It follows the same structure as previous verses, with the phrase (إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ) implying that the instructions are given for when the Prophet returns from the journey.
(يَعْتَذِرُونَ) – this term refers to offering a false excuse. The word “i‘tidhār” here means that they will try to justify their absence with false excuses.
The phrase (وَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ) – the use of the future tense "سَيَرَى" indicates that the actions being referred to are in the future.
This means that Allah will observe their future deeds, whether they will repent from their hypocrisy, whether they will help the believers in fighting, or whether they will continue to avoid doing so.
[95] This verse is a warning to the hypocrites, and it highlights two of their disgraceful traits.
(فَأَعْرِضُوا عَنْهُمْ) – means: do not speak to them, and avoid sitting or socializing with them. This is a command to distance oneself from them outwardly.
(لِتُعْرِضُوا) – refers to “i‘rāḍ ṣafḥ”, i.e., not even rebuking or scolding them, just completely ignoring them.
The first command (أَعْرِضُوا) implies cutting ties, avoiding conversation, greetings, and gatherings with them—
this is supported by the reasoning that follows: (إِنَّهُمْ رِجْسٌ) – “Indeed, they are filth.”
The word “rijs” refers to spiritual and internal impurity, not physical.
Just as one stays away from physical filth, it is necessary to stay away from these people so that their spiritual corruption does not influence you.
[96] This verse is also a warning to the hypocrites, and it clearly states that Allah the Exalted is displeased with them.
It shows that His being pleased (رضا) is far greater than merely turning away (اعراض).
So, this verse adds an extra level of seriousness compared to the previous one.
From this, it becomes clear that while turning away from hypocrites is permissible, being pleased or content with them is strictly prohibited.
[97] This verse is also a warning to the desert-dwelling hypocrites, mentioning two of their disgraceful traits.
(الْأَعْرَابُ) – is the plural of “aʿrābī”, which refers to Bedouins or nomadic Arabs who live in the desert.
In contrast, “ʿArabī” refers to someone ethnically Arab, connected by lineage.
(وَأَجْدَرُ) – is a justification for “أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا” (stronger in disbelief and hypocrisy). It means they are more likely to be that way because they are far from the teachings of the Qur’an, Sunnah, and Islamic rulings.
(حُدُودَ) – is a general term referring not only to legal limits (punishments), but also to Islamic rulings, etiquettes, meanings, and purposes of the Shariah.
