وَاعْلَمُوا 432 التوبة

وَإِذَا أُنْزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَجَاهِدُوا مَعَ رَسُولِهِ اسْتَأْذَنَكَ أُولُو الطَّوْلِ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالُوا ذَرْنَا نَكُنْ مَعَ الْقَاعِدِينَ ﴿۸۶﴾ رَضُوا بِأَنْ يَكُونُوا مَعَ الْخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿۸۷﴾ لَكِنِ الرَّسُولُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ جَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأُولَئِكَ لَهُمُ الْخَيْرَاتُ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴿۸۸﴾ أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ ﴿۸۹﴾

﴾86﴿ And their souls will be expelled, and they will be disbelievers
﴾87﴿ Radoo bi ai yakoonoo ma'al khawaalifi wa tubi'a 'alaa quloobihim fahum laa yafqahoonx
﴾88﴿ Laakinir Rasoolu wal lazeena aamanoo ma'ahoo jaahadoo bi amwaalihim wa anfusihim; wa ulaaa'ika lahumul khairaatu wa ulaaa'ika humul muflihoon
﴾89﴿ A'addal laahu lahum Jannaatin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa; zaalikal fawzul 'azeem

﴾86﴿ And when a Surah is revealed (with this content) Believe in Allah and do jihad with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace Those who have power from them asking permission from you They say, Leave us alone, so we can be with the people who are sitting
﴾87﴿ They are content with being with backward women And a seal has been set on their hearts, so they do not know (this deficiency)
﴾88﴿ But the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and those who have believed with him, doing jihad with their wealth and their lives And these are the people for whom happiness is, And these are the successful ones
﴾89﴿ Allah Almighty has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow They are immortal in it This is great success

[86] This verse is also brought as a continuation (‘atf)—linking one story to another, which is a common Qur'anic style.
It is again a warning to the hypocrites: when the command for jihad is announced, the wealthy among them make efforts to stay behind.
(آمِنُوا) – For the believers, this implies steadfast and continuous faith. For the hypocrites, it refers to sincere faith, which they lack.
This distinction is mentioned earlier, because jihad is not accepted without true faith.
(سُورَةٌ) – This may refer to a single part of a surah, or to the entire Surah At-Tawbah. Both interpretations are valid.
(أُولُو الطَّوْلِ) – refers specifically to those who have means and ability (i.e., the wealthy), yet they still avoid jihad.
(الْقَاعِدِينَ) – is general and includes anyone who remains behind, whether due to illness, valid excuse, being women, children, or the elderly.
[87] This verse is also a warning to the hypocrites, and it highlights one of their disgraceful traits.
(الْخَوَالِفِ) – is the plural of خَالِفَة, referring to women, children, and men who are excused from jihad.
It can also refer to weak and dishonorable men, implying disgrace for those who intentionally stayed behind.
(يَفْقَهُونَ) – the intended meaning of fiqh (understanding) here is the ability to distinguish:
between the benefits of jihad and the losses of abandoning it, between the company of the mujahideen and the company of women, and also to have insight into the objectives and meanings of the surah.
[88,89] In these verses, the qualities of the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace) and the noble Companions are described in contrast to the hypocrites, particularly their dedication to jihad. Alongside this, glad tidings of the Hereafter are given to them.
The word "لَٰكِن" serves to clarify and remove a false assumption: that the hypocrites might think, “If we do not go for jihad, then no one else will either.”
So, Allah mentions the true mujahideen, proving that others are fulfilling this duty sincerely.
The glad tidings are given in four ways: In the first verse, two forms of glad tidings are mentioned. In the second verse, another two forms are given.
These together emphasize the honor, sincerity, and reward of those who strive in the path of Allah, in stark contrast to the hypocrisy and laziness of those who stay behind.
