الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ﴿۱۹۱﴾ رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَنْ تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ ﴿۱۹۲﴾ رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلْإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ ﴿۱۹۳﴾ رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدْتَنَا عَلَى رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ ﴿۱۹۴﴾
﴾191﴿ Allazeena yazkuroonal laaha qiyaamanw-wa qu'oodanw-wa 'alaa juno obihim wa yatafakkaroona fee khalqis samaawaati wal ardi Rabbanaa maa khalaqta haaza baatilan Subhaanaka faqinaa 'azaaban Naar
﴾192﴿ Rabbanaaa innaka man tudkhilin Naara faqad akhzai tahoo wa maa lizzaalimeena min ansaar
﴾193﴿ Rabbanaaa innanaa sami'naa munaadiyai yunaadee lil eemaani an aaminoo bi Rabbikum fa aamannaa; Rabbanaa faghfir lanaa zunoobanaa wa kaffir 'annaa saiyi aatina wa tawaffanaa ma'al abraar
﴾194﴿ Rabbanaa wa aatinaa maa wa'attanaa 'alaa Rusulika wa laa tukhzinaa Yawmal Qiyaamah; innaka laa tukhliful mee'aad
﴾191﴿ They are those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and who reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth, saying:
“Our Lord, You have not created this in vain; glory be to You! So protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
﴾192﴿ Our Lord, surely whoever You admit into the Fire — You have indeed disgraced him, and the wrongdoers will have no helpers.
﴾193﴿ Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, saying: “Believe in your Lord,” so we have believed.
Our Lord, so forgive us our sins, and remove from us our misdeeds, and cause us to die among the righteous.
﴾194﴿ Our Lord, and grant us what You have promised us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Surely, You never break Your promise.
[191] In this verse, there are five qualities:
1. Remembering Allah while standing
2. While sitting
3. While lying on their sides
4. Reflecting (pondering)
5. Supplicating (praying)
(قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا) — This means always remembering Allah, as a person is always in one of these three states. Or, it could refer to performing prayers, where these three positions correspond to states of health or illness.
(يَتَفَكَّرُونَ) — Reflecting here means contemplating the signs and wisdoms of Allah.
(رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ) — The phrase “they say” is implied at the beginning; this is the result of sound contemplation.
(فَقِنَا) — This points to the fact that Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and declaring Allah’s perfection (subhanak) is a means of salvation from Hellfire.
[192] This is the second supplication, and its purpose is seeking salvation from Hell.
It indicates that shirk (associating partners with Allah) is a cause of disgrace (humiliation in Hell), and by "wrongdoers" (ظالمین) in this context, the polytheists are meant.
In essence: “O Allah, protect us from shirk.”
[193] The "caller" mentioned refers to the Qur’an and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and their message is essentially faith and monotheism.
(سَيِّئَاتِنَا) — refers to bad states, whether they are sins or hardships.
(تَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ) — here, the request is not for death itself, but rather for Allah to keep us in the company of the righteous until death, and after death, for our souls to be among the righteous in the highest ranks (Illiyin).
[194] (آتِنَا مَا وَعَدْتَنَا) — The meaning here is: “Make us deserving of Paradise in the Hereafter.”
It also includes granting us help (victory) in this world and intercession in the Hereafter.
