لَنْ تَنَالُوا 155 آل عمران

لَتُبْلَوُنَّ فِي أَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا أَذًى كَثِيرًا وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْأُمُورِ ﴿۱۸۶﴾ وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَاشْتَرَوْا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ ﴿۱۸۷﴾ لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوْا وَيُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُمْ بِمَفَازَةٍ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿۱۸۸﴾ وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ﴿۱۸۹﴾ إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ﴿۱۹۰﴾

﴾186﴿ Latublawunna feee amwaalikum wa anfusikum wa latasma'unna minal lazeena ootul Kitaaba min qablikum wa minal lazeena ashrakooo azan kaseeraa; wa in tasbiroo wa tattaqoo fa inna zaalika min 'azmil umoor
﴾187﴿ Wa iz akhazal laahu meesaaqal lazeena ootul Kitaaba latubaiyinunnahoo linnaasi wa laa taktumoona hoo fanabazoohu waraaa'a zuhoorihim washtaraw bihee samanan qaleelan fabi'sa maa yashtaroon
﴾188﴿ Laa tahsabannal lazeena yafrahoona bimaaa ataw wa yuhibbona ai yuhmadoo bimaa lam yaf'aloo falaa tahsabannahum bimafaazatim minal 'azaabi wa lahum 'azaabun aleem
﴾189﴿ Wa lillaahi mulkus samaawaati wal ard; wallaahu 'alaa kulli shai'in Qadeer
﴾190﴿ Inna fee khalqis samaawaati wal ardi wakhtilaafil laili wannahaari la Aayaatil liulil albaab

﴾186﴿ Indeed, you shall certainly be tested in your wealth and your lives, and you will surely hear much abuse from those who were given the Book before you and from those who associate partners with Allah.
But if you are patient and guard yourselves (from sin), then surely that is among the matters of strong resolve (and necessity).
﴾187﴿ When Allah took a firm covenant from those who were given the Book that they must surely make it clear to the people and not conceal it, they cast it behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price (worldly gain).
So how evil is that which they have acquired!
﴾188﴿ Do not think of those who rejoice in what they have done (i.e., concealing the truth) and love to be praised for what they did not do — do not think they will escape the punishment.
And for them is a painful punishment.
﴾189﴿ And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Powerful over all things.
﴾190﴿ Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of night and day are many signs for those of pure intellect.

[186] In this verse as well, there is encouragement for jihad and spending in the path of Allah.
(عَزْمِ الْأُمُورِ) refers to those matters that are obligatory in the religion and have been acted upon by the prophets.
(أَذًى كَثِيرًا) includes insults, slander, and false objections raised against the religion — all of these fall under the category of harm.
[187] This explains the third evil — which is concealing the Book of Allah and exchanging it for worldly gain.
(فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ) — throwing it behind their backs means abandoning action upon it.
The ruling of this verse also applies to the scholars of this Ummah who conceal the truth, do not clarify it, and prefer worldly gain over truth.
(لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ) — tabyīn here refers to full clarification and detailed explanation, not merely translating or stating the meaning.
[188] This verse also serves as a warning to those who conceal the truth yet desire that people call them righteous.
(يَفْرَحُونَ) — refers to the arrogant joy they feel.
(بِمَا أَتَوْا) — refers to their act of concealing the truth and pursuing worldly gain.
(بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا) — refers to revealing the truth, which they did not do, yet they wish people would consider them as upholders of the truth.
[189] From here until the end of the fourth section, four themes are repeated: Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah), Prophethood, charity, and the ten qualities of the righteous, along with four supplications.
In this verse, the topic is Tawhid — that only Allah is the disposer and the sole possessor of authority.
This is a refutation of associating others with Allah in the control over creation (shirk in authority and management).
[190] In this verse, there is a rational proof for the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid).
(لَآيَاتٍ) — these are signs of Allah’s oneness, wisdom, power, and sovereignty.
(لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ) — refers to those with pure and sound intellect; for them, brief signs are sufficient, while those with common intellect require detailed explanation, as in verse 164 of Surah Al-Baqarah.
