لَنْ تَنَالُوا 146 آل عمران

ثُمَّ أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُعَاسًا يَغْشَى طَائِفَةً مِنْكُمْ وَطَائِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنْفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِاللَّهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ ظَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلَّهِ يُخْفُونَ فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ مَا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَا قُتِلْنَا هَاهُنَا قُلْ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ إِلَى مَضَاجِعِهِمْ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللَّهُ مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ ﴿۱۵۴﴾ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْا مِنْكُمْ يَوْمَ الْتَقَى الْجَمْعَانِ إِنَّمَا اسْتَزَلَّهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُوا وَلَقَدْ عَفَا اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ ﴿۱۵۵﴾

﴾154﴿ Summa anzala 'alaikum mim ba'dil ghammi amanatan nu'aasai yaghshaa taaa' ifatam minkum wa taaa'ifatun qad ahammat-hum anfusuhum yazunnoona billaahi ghairal haqqi zannal jaahiliyyati yaqooloona hal lanaa minal amri min shai'; qul innal amra kullahoo lillaah; yukhfoona fee anfusihim maa laa yubdoona laka yaqooloona law kaana lanaa minal amri shai'ummaa qutilnaa haahunaa; qul law kuntum fee buyootikum labarazal lazeena kutiba 'alaihimul qatlu ilaa madaaji'ihim wa liyabtaliyal laahu maa fee sudoorikum wa liyumah hisa maa fee quloobikum; wallaahu 'aleemum bizaatis sudoor
﴾155﴿ Innal lazeena tawallaw minkum yawmal taqal jam'aani innamas tazallahumush Shaitaanu biba'di maa kasaboo wa laqad 'afal laahu 'anhum; innnal laaha Ghafoorun Haleem

﴾154﴿ Then, after the sorrow, Allah sent down upon you a sense of security—a slumber that overcame a group of you—while another group was anxious, their own souls preoccupied with doubts about Allah, thinking about Him the thoughts of ignorance. They said, “Is there anything for us (of help) in this matter?” Say: “Indeed, all help belongs to Allah.” They hide within themselves what they do not reveal to you. They say, “If we had any say in the matter, none of us would have been killed here.” Say: “Even if you had been in your homes, those for whom killing was decreed would have surely gone out to their places of death.” And (this was so) that Allah might test what is in your hearts (of hypocrisy), and purify what is in your hearts (of faith). And Allah is All-Knowing of what is in the breasts.
﴾155﴿ Surely those who turned back on the day when the two groups met (in battle), it was only Satan who made them slip because of some of what they had earned. But Allah has already pardoned them; indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

[154] After forgiveness, this verse offers another comfort to the noble Companions: during the final moments at the Battle of Uhud, Allah sent a light slumber over them—Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that his sword fell from his hand several times. This was a special mercy and honor, which removed the sorrow from their hearts. But this state did not come upon the hypocrites; five of their bad traits are mentioned in this verse. The difference between (أَمَنَةً) and amnan is: if the cause of fear and grief is removed, it is called amn (safety); but if the cause remains but fear and grief are taken away, it is called amanah (tranquility). (مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ) – this is addressed to the hypocrites. (وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ) – this is addressed to the believers. This verse is proof that one’s appointed time and place of death cannot be changed by any means or strategies. It is also noted that in this verse, all the Arabic alphabet letters from alif to ya are present.
[155] In this, there is comfort for the noble Companions regarding their pardon for having fled from the battlefield at Uhud. (بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُوا) – this refers to the actions mentioned in verse (152), and it is evidence that one sin can become a cause for another sin.
