وَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا لِجَالُوتَ وَجُنُودِهِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ ﴿۲۵۰﴾ فَهَزَمُوهُمْ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَقَتَلَ دَاوُودُ جَالُوتَ وَآتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْمُلْكَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَهُ مِمَّا يَشَاءُ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ اللَّهِ النَّاسَ بَعْضَهُمْ بِبَعْضٍ لَفَسَدَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿۲۵۱﴾ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ اللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿۲۵۲﴾
﴾250﴿ Wa lammaa barazoo liJaaloota wa junoodihee qaaloo Rabbanaaa afrigh 'alainaa sabranw wa sabbit aqdaamanaa wansurnaa 'alal qawmil kaafireen
﴾251﴿ Fahazamoohum bi iznillaahi wa qatala Daawoodu jaaloota wa aataahul laahulmulka Wal Hikmata wa 'allamahoo mimmaa yashaaa'; wa law laa daf'ullaahin naasa ba'dahum biba'dil lafasadatil ardu wa laakinnal laaha zoo fadlin 'alal'aalameen
﴾252﴿ Tilka Aayaatul laahi natloohaa 'alaika bilhaqq; wa innaka laminal mursaleen
﴾250﴿ And when they appeared before Goliath and his armies, they said: Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make our feet firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people.
﴾251﴿ So they defeated them by the will of Allah, and David (peace be upon him) killed Goliath.
And Allah gave him kingship and prophethood and taught him from what He willed.
And if it were not for Allah repelling some people by means of others, the earth would surely have been corrupted.
But Allah is full of bounty upon mankind.
﴾252﴿ These are the signs of Allah which We recite to you to make the truth clear, and indeed you are surely among the messengers (who are sent to remove corruption).
[250] This verse mentions the supplication of the warriors, showing that in the battlefield, seeking help from Allah is essential.
Those who call upon others like "O ‘Alī, help us" or "O Bābā, help us" in such situations are in misguidance.
"Ṣabran" refers to steadfastness of the heart, which leads to the firmness of the feet.
[251] Dāwūd (peace be upon him), the son of Yashī and grandson of ʿUwaybid, was among the army of Ṭālūt.
After that, both prophethood and kingship were united in Dāwūd (peace be upon him).
"Al-ḥikmah" (wisdom) here means prophethood.
"Mimmā yashāʾ" (from what He willed) refers to the skill of crafting armor for jihad, as mentioned in verse 80 of Surah al-Anbiyāʾ and verse 11 of Surah Ṣād.
This verse also alludes to the wisdom behind jihad through the phrase "lawlā dafʿu Allāh"—the repelling by Allah—

[252] This verse affirms the messengership of the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
The mention of this past story serves as evidence for the prophethood of our Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
