هَلْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظُلَلٍ مِنَ الْغَمَامِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الْأُمُورُ ﴿۲۱۰﴾ سَلْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَمْ آتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ بَيِّنَةٍ وَمَنْ يُبَدِّلْ نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ ﴿۲۱۱﴾ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا وَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَاللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ﴿۲۱۲﴾
﴾210﴿ Fa in zalaltum minba'di maa jaaa'atkumul baiyinaatu fa'lamoo annallaaha 'Azeezun hakeem
﴾211﴿ Sal Banee Israaa'eela kam aatainaahum min aayatim baiyinah; wa mai yubaddil ni'matal laahi mim ba'di maa jaaa'athu fa innallaaha shadeedul'iqaab
﴾212﴿ Zuyyina lillazeena kafarul hayaatud dunyaa wa yaskharoona minal lazeena aamanoo; wallazeenat taqaw fawqahum yawmal Qiyaamah; wallaahu yarzuqu mai yashaaa'u bighairi hisaab
﴾210﴿ They are waiting for nothing but that Allah comes to them in the shadows of clouds along with the angels, and that their punishment is finalized. And all matters are returned solely to Allah.
﴾211﴿ Ask the Children of Israel how many clear blessings We gave them. And whoever changes the blessing of Allah (through ingratitude) after it has come to them, then indeed Allah is severe in punishment.
﴾212﴿ The life of this world has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they mock those who believe. But those who are saved from shirk will be above them on the Day of Judgment, and Allah provides sustenance to whomever He wills without measure.
[210] This is a worldly warning. "They are waiting" means they are in expectation. "That Allah comes to them" is from the mutashabihat — its apparent and real meaning is known, but without applying metaphor, comparison, or distortion. "And all matters are returned to Allah" has two meanings: the first is that all deeds will return to Allah for judgment on the Day of Resurrection; the second is that although today the polytheists attribute certain actions to their false gods, on the Day of Judgment they will attribute all matters solely to Allah.
[211] In this verse, there is an example of worldly punishment, and its cause is mentioned. "Clear sign" refers to the blessings previously mentioned at the beginning of this surah regarding the Children of Israel. Since every blessing is also a miracle and a proof, it is called a sign. "Whoever changes" refers to being ungrateful for the blessing.
[212] This verse explains the reason for the rejection of blessings, which is the allure of worldly wealth and life. It also answers the question of why disbelievers live in comfort. "Made attractive" is in the passive form — sometimes attributed to Allah in terms of creation, and sometimes to Satan in terms of his whispers. "They mock" comes from arrogance. "Above them" refers to the superiority in Paradise, which is attained through piety. "And Allah provides for whom He wills" has several interpretations: first, that "whom He wills" refers to all people and the provision is worldly sustenance; second, that it refers to believers and the provision is what is thought to be beyond expectation; and third, that it refers to believers and the provision is Paradise, which is granted without measure.
