الم 21 اَلٌبَقَرَة

أَتَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَتَنْسَوْنَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ﴿44﴾ وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ ﴿45﴾ الَّذِينَ يَظُنُّونَ أَنَّهُمْ مُلَاقُو رَبِّهِمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ﴿46﴾

﴾44﴿ Ataamuroonan naasa bilbirri wa tansawna anfusakum wa antum tatloonal Kitaab; afalaa ta'qiloon
﴾45﴿ Wasta'eenoo bissabri was Salaah; wa innahaa lakabee ratun illaa alal khaashi'een
﴾46﴿ Allazeena yazunnoona annahum mulaaqoo Rabbihim wa annahum ilaihi raaji'oon

﴾44﴿ Do you enjoin righteousness upon others while forgetting your own selves, even though you recite the Book? Will you not then understand?
﴾45﴿ And seek help through patience and prayer; indeed, this is certainly difficult, except for those who are humble
﴾46﴿ They are those who are certain that they will surely meet their Lord, and indeed, they are the ones who will return to Him

[44] In this verse, there is a warning against failing to act upon knowledge despite possessing it. (بِالْبِرِّ) — This includes all forms of righteousness. Its explanation is found in this surah in verses (177, 189) and in Surah Al-Imran, verse (92). (وَتَنْسَوْنَ) — The intent here is deliberate neglect. From this verse, it becomes clear that any scholar who does not act upon his knowledge is considered lacking in intellect.
[45] In this verse, one command is mentioned. The meaning is that acting upon the previous commands and prohibitions is difficult, but to succeed in doing so, one must strengthen oneself through patience and prayer. So, seeking help through patience and prayer means: practice patience and prayer — for through these, steadfastness in faith and righteous deeds is achieved. The intent here is not supplicating through patience and prayer (even though that is allowed), but rather making use of them by actually performing them. Patience involves training the soul to endure both divine tests (related to creation) and religious obligations, and to restrain it from desires. Thus, there are three types of patience: patience during hardships, patience in fulfilling acts of obedience, and patience in abstaining from sin. (وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ) — The pronoun refers either to seeking help through patience and prayer, or just to prayer alone. It means: it is indeed a heavy task. (الْخَاشِعِينَ) — Khushuʿ means humility and fear in the heart, whose effects are visible on the body. This is a requirement in obligatory prayer — even if for a moment.
[46] This verse is proof that certainty in the Hereafter leads to humility, and humility is the quality that makes all acts of worship easy. (يَظُنُّونَ) — Here, ẓann means certainty. The meaning of (مُلَاقُو رَبِّهِمْ) is approaching Allah for accountability, and what is sought through recompense is hope. And the intended meaning of “meeting Allah” is seeing Allah in Paradise.
