عَمَِّ 1506 اَلْمُطَفِّفِين
َ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ ﴿۱۶﴾ ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ ﴿۱۷﴾ كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ ﴿۱۸﴾ وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ﴿۱۹﴾ كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ ﴿۲۰﴾ يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ ﴿۲۱﴾ إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ ﴿۲۲﴾ عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ ﴿۲۳﴾ تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ ﴿۲۴﴾ يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ ﴿۲۵﴾ خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ وَفِي ذَلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ ﴿۲۶﴾ وَمِزَاجُهُ مِنْ تَسْنِيمٍ ﴿۲۷﴾
﴾16﴿ Summa innahum lasaa lul jaheem
﴾17﴿ Summa yuqaalu haazal lazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon
﴾18﴿ Kallaaa inna kitaabal abraari lafee'Illiyyeen
﴾19﴿ Wa maaa adraaka maa 'Illiyyoon
﴾20﴿ Kitaabum marqoom
﴾21﴿ Yashhadu hul muqarra boon
﴾22﴿ Innal abraara lafee Na'eem
﴾23﴿ 'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon
﴾24﴿ Ta'rifu fee wujoohihim nadratan na'eem
﴾25﴿ Yusqawna mir raheeqim makhtoom
﴾26﴿ Khitaamuhoo misk; wa fee zaalika falyatanaafasil Mutanaafisoon
﴾27﴿ Wa mizaajuhoo min Tasneem
﴾16﴿ Indeed, they will surely enter the Fire
﴾17﴿ It will again be said, This is what you used to deny
﴾18﴿ Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ʿIlliyyīn
﴾19﴿ And what will make you know what ʿIlliyyūn is
﴾20﴿ It is a written record
﴾21﴿ Those who are near (to Allah, the Most High) will witness it
﴾22﴿ Indeed, the righteous will be in bliss
﴾23﴿ They will be on thrones, observing
﴾24﴿ You will recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss
﴾25﴿ They will be given to drink a sealed pure wine
﴾26﴿ Its seal is of musk, and for this let those who aspire, aspire
﴾27﴿ And its mixture is from the spring of Tasnīm
[16,17] In addition to being veiled, this is another form of punishment — meaning they are both deprived (ḥirmān) and tormented (nīrān).
So they fall under both categories: those who are deprived of seeing Allah and those who suffer the punishment of the Fire.
[18] This is a glad tiding through the mention of the state of the righteous (abrār).
(عِلِّيِّينَ) — is derived from ʿuluw (elevation), and it is the name of a special station.
In most narrations, it is said to be in the seventh heaven, beneath the Throne (ʿArsh), thus encompassing great height and honor.
For this reason, the name is expressed in the plural form, indicating its vastness and lofty rank.
[19,20,21] In this verse, the greatness of the rank of Illiyyīn is mentioned.
[22,23] After mentioning the state of the book of deeds, the condition of the people of that book is described.
(يَنْظُرُونَ) — this may refer to looking at the Face of Allah the Exalted, or it may have a general meaning — referring to their viewing of the blessings of Paradise and the state of their enemies.
In the general meaning, the vision of Allah is also included.
[24] This means the blessings of Paradise will be so abundant that there will be no sorrow, worry, or illness alongside them.
As a result, freshness and joy will be clearly visible on their faces.
[25,26] (رَحِيقٍ) — refers to a pure wine, free from impurity, intoxication, and mixture.
(مَخْتُومٍ) — the sealed nature of it indicates that no one has touched it before, and the sealing is also a sign of honor and dignity.
This is one type of wine in Paradise, while another type flows in rivers.
(خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ) — khitām can mean “the last part,” indicating that the final sip is scented with musk. Or it can mean “seal,” suggesting it is sealed with musk.
(الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ) — means that competition is a natural part of human behavior, so let that competition be directed toward Paradise.
The intended form of munāfasah (healthy rivalry) here is sincerity and following the Sunnah throughout one’s life — by which the blessings of Paradise are attained.
A similar expression appears in Surah As-Sāffāt (37:61).
[27,28] (الْمُقَرَّبُونَ) — refers to those who are nearest to Allah.
They will drink pure Tasnīm directly, while for the abrār (the righteous), it will be mixed into their drink.
Likewise, for the abrār, their drink is mixed with kāfūr (camphor), as mentioned in Surah Ad-Dahr (76:5),
and also mixed with zanjabīl (ginger), as in Surah Ad-Dahr (76:17).
