َ وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَالِغُ أَمْرِهِ قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا ﴿۳﴾ وَاللَّائِي يَئِسْنَ مِنَ الْمَحِيضِ مِنْ نِسَائِكُمْ إِنِ ارْتَبْتُمْ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَاللَّائِي لَمْ يَحِضْنَ وَأُولَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا ﴿۴﴾
﴾3﴿ Wa yarzuqhu min haisu laa yahtasib; wa many yatawakkal 'alal laahi fahuwa hasbuh; innal laaha baalighu amrih; qad ja'alal laahu likulli shai'in qadraa
﴾4﴿ Wallaaa'ee ya'isna minal maheedi min nisaaa 'ikum inir tabtum fa'iddatuhunna salaasatu ashhurinw wallaaa'ee lam yahidn; wa ulaatul ahmaali ajaluhunna any yada'na hamlahun; wa many yattaqil laaha yaj'al lahoo min amrihee yusraa
﴾3﴿ And He will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever entrusts himself to Allah, then He (Allah) is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His decree. Verily, Allah has set a specific measure for everything
﴾4﴿ And those of your women who have despaired of menstruation—if you are in doubt, then their waiting period is three months, as well as for those who have not menstruated. And for pregnant women, their waiting period is until they give birth. And whoever fears Allah, He will make his affairs easy for him
[3] This verse mentions the second benefit of taqwa, which is the blessing placed in one’s sustenance, and the provision coming through unexpected means beyond apparent causes.
(وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ)—since tawakkul (trust in Allah) also plays a role in bringing barakah (blessing) in sustenance, it is mentioned directly after. Tawakkul means to place one’s full trust in Allah, the Exalted, and to entrust all affairs to Him while still using available means.
(إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَالِغُ أَمْرِهِ)—this answers a potential question: many who trust in Allah are God-fearing, yet they still face hardships, illnesses, and the like—why is that? The answer is that these are Allah’s decrees that He carries out in His creation, and He completes every matter to its destined end.
(قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا)—this means that Allah completes every matter because He has predetermined it. Or, it refers to a set measure and duration—just as Allah has appointed a specific number and time for divorce and ‘iddah, similarly, for every hardship and illness, Allah, the Exalted, has fixed a measure and a duration.
[4] In this verse, three types of women and their waiting periods (‘iddah) are mentioned, and at the end of the verse, one benefit of taqwa is also stated.
The first category is ā’isa—a woman who has reached menopause and no longer menstruates. Therefore, she is also no longer capable of becoming pregnant. Scholars differ on the age: some say 60, others 55, but the correct view is that it depends on the custom of women in different regions.
The second category is the young, prepubescent girl who has not yet begun menstruation, but was married and her husband consummated the marriage, and later divorced her. The waiting period for both this group and the menopausal women is three months. This is because the default waiting period is based on menstruation, and since menstruation normally occurs monthly and these two types do not menstruate, three months are appointed in place of menstrual cycles.
The third category is pregnant women, regardless of whether they were divorced or their husband passed away. Their waiting period is until they give birth, whether that happens soon or after a long time.
(وَاللَّائِي لَمْ يَحِضْنَ)—this proves that the marriage of prepubescent girls, arranged by their guardian, is legally permissible, as in the marriage of ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Anyone who denies this or criticizes the hadith of ʿĀ’ishah or slanders Imām Bukhārī or Imām al-Zuhrī regarding it—such people are themselves accursed.
(يُسْرًا)—this refers to ease, and the word makhrajan (a way out) applies to ease in both this world and the Hereafter. Thus, this is a great benefit compared to the previous two mentioned benefits.
