َقَدْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ 1369 اَلْمُمْتَحِنَة
َ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَى عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ وَهُوَ يُدْعَى إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ ﴿۷﴾ يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَاللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ ﴿۸﴾ هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُ بِالْهُدَى وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ ﴿۹﴾
﴾7﴿ Wa man azlamu mimma nif taraa 'alal laahil kaziba wa huwa yud'aaa ilal Islaam; wallaahu laa yahdil qawmaz zaalimeen
﴾8﴿ Yureedoona liyutfi'oo nooral laahi bi afwaahihim wallaahu mutimmu noorihee wa law karihal kaafiroon
﴾9﴿ Huwal lazee arsala Rasoolahoo bilhudaa wa deenil haqqi liyuzhirahoo 'alad deeni kullihee wa law karihal mushrikoon
﴾7﴿ And who is more unjust than one who fabricates lies against Allah while he is being invited to Islam? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people
﴾8﴿ They wish to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers dislike it
﴾9﴿ Allah alone is the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the true religion to make it prevail over all other religions, even if the polytheists dislike it
[7] This warning is for those who call the clear signs magic—whether they are Jews who denied 'Isa (peace be upon him), or both Jews and Christians who denied the final Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
"(The wrongdoers)"—refers to those who reject the truth with stubborn opposition.
In the fifth verse, the term "the defiantly disobedient" (الفاسقین) was mentioned because the deviation of the heart is a form of disbelief in belief (i.e., doctrinal corruption).
Here, the term "wrongdoers" (الظالمین) is used because earlier in the verse it said "Who is more unjust?" (وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ).
[8] This too is a warning against denying the Messenger and the Qur’an.
It is mentioned in the form of an answer to a question.
The implied question is: Why do they commit injustice and falsely oppose Islam?
The answer given is that their aim is to extinguish the light of Allah.
"(The light of Allah with their mouths)"—The intended meaning of “light” is like sunlight, and the expression is metaphorical and illustrative.
That is, these deniers who strive to invalidate the truth are like someone who tries to blow out the sun with his mouth.
Or the intended meaning of “light” is the Qur’an, monotheism, the message of the final Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and Islam itself.
The phrase “with their mouths” refers to baseless speech and weak doubts.
"(Even though the disbelievers dislike it)"—The word “disbelievers” hints at darkness, which stands in contrast to light.
That is, those who prefer darkness do not want brightness.
[9] This is an explanation of "(Perfecting His light)"—meaning that Allah completes His light by sending this Messenger and the Qur'an, with the attribute of making it prevail over all religions.
"(With guidance and the religion of truth)"—This may refer to the Qur'an and monotheism, or the Qur'an and Hadith, or beliefs and rulings.
"(So that He may make it prevail over all religions)"—The word izhar (appearance) is derived from zuhūr, meaning dominance.
This dominance can be general—whether through proof and evidence, or in such a way that other religions remain but are weak and subdued, as happened during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.
Or it can be complete, where no religion other than Islam remains on the earth, as will happen during the descent of 'Isa (peace be upon him) near the end of time.
Or izhar may mean declaration and information—that is, the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) becomes a means for knowledge of all heavenly and non-heavenly religions.
"(Even though the polytheists dislike it)"—Since guidance and the religion of truth are based on monotheism, and rejecting monotheism is called polytheism, the verse ends with “the polytheists” to emphasize this contrast.
