َقَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ 1285 الطور

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿۳۳﴾ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِثْلِهِ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ ﴿۳۴﴾ أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ ﴿۳۵﴾ أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ ﴿۳۶﴾ أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ ﴿۳۷﴾ أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ ﴿۳۸﴾

﴾33﴿ Am yaqooloona taqawwalah; bal laa yu'minoon
﴾34﴿ Falyaatoo bihadeesim misliheee in kaanoo saadiqeen
﴾35﴿ Am khuliqoo min ghairi shai'in am humul khaaliqoon
﴾36﴿ Am khalaqus samaawaati wal ard; bal laa yooqinoon
﴾37﴿ Am'indahum khazaaa'inu rabbika am humul musaitiroon
﴾38﴿ Am lahum sullamuny yastami'oona feehi falyaati mustami'uhum bisultaanim mubeen

﴾33﴿ Do they say that he has fabricated it? Rather, they do not believe
﴾34﴿ Then let them bring a speech like it if they are truthful
﴾35﴿ Have they been created without purpose, or are they the creators (of themselves)
﴾36﴿ Have they created the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty
﴾37﴿ Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord, or are they the ones in charge of its distribution
﴾38﴿ Do they have a ladder by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear proof

[33,34] This is a different kind of torment—it is related to the denial of the Qur’an. "(بِحَدِيثٍ)" refers to any speech that has been uttered; whether it is ancient or newly originated, it can be called hadith. Most often, it is used for reported speech. For this reason, the Qur’an is also called hadith. In the Qur’an, the term hadith has been applied to the Qur’an nine times.
[35,36] The torment is for their polytheism, and it is a refutation of the assumption of the polytheists who think that Allah, the Exalted, has not given us any command or obligation regarding accepting monotheism, prophethood, and the Qur’an, nor will He do so.
The summary of both verses is that this assumption could only be valid if one of the following three statements were true:
First, that your creation was in vain and without purpose;
Second, that you created yourselves;
Third, that you created the heavens, the earth, and other things.
But none of these three statements is true—so why do you deny?
[37] This torment is also connected to the previous one—meaning, if they are not the Creator, then do they have control over anything from the treasures of Allah, the Exalted—such as the treasures of provision, rain, etc., or the treasure of distributing prophethood?
"(أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ)"—this too is a form of reproach, meaning: if they do not have authority over the treasures, then are they appointed to guard, manage, or distribute them?
[38] This torment also pertains to the denial of prophethood — meaning, by what means can they ascend to the heavens to bring down revelation or any knowledge of the unseen for themselves, just as Jibril (peace be upon him) brought revelation to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
