وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا ﴿۷﴾ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا ﴿۸﴾ لِتُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَتُعَزِّرُوهُ وَتُوَقِّرُوهُ وَتُسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا ﴿۹﴾
﴾7﴿ Wa lillaahi junoodus samaawaati wal ard; wa kaanal laahu 'azeezan hakeema
﴾8﴿ Innaaa arsalnaaka shaahi danw wa mubashshiranw wa nazeera
﴾9﴿ Litu minoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee wa tu'azziroohu watuwaqqiroohu watusabbi hoohu bukratanw wa aseelaa
﴾7﴿ And to Allah alone belong the armies of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Almighty, Most Wise
﴾8﴿ Indeed, We have sent you as a bearer of truth, a giver of glad tidings, and a warner
﴾9﴿ So that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, support Him (His religion), honor Him, and glorify Him morning and evening
[7] This is the reason for the punishment of the hypocrites and polytheists — meaning: Allah the Exalted has full power to punish them, because all the armies are under His control and ownership.
Through these means, He brings punishment upon them.
[8] This is a proof of the truthfulness of the Messenger and is connected to the phrase (إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ) — meaning: the reason for granting the victory is that you are truly a Messenger. Or, the clear victory itself is evidence of the Prophethood of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
(شَاهِدًا) — the witnessing mentioned here refers to bearing witness in this world, and witnessing means conveying the truth to others. That is, you are a declarer and a proclaimer. Two forms of this declaration are mentioned: glad tidings and warning.
And if this witnessing is interpreted as bearing witness over actions, then it refers specifically to those people who performed deeds during the lifetime of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) in front of him.
Whoever uses this to claim that the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) is present and observing all actions of every time and place — that person is distorting the meaning of the Qur’an.
[9] In this verse, four benefits of the sending of the Messenger are mentioned:
First Note: Belief in Allah and His Messenger — this indicates that detailed faith is achieved through following the Messenger.
Second Note: (وَتُعَزِّرُوهُ) — the pronoun may refer to Allah, in which case it means negating any child or partner for Allah and refuting the claims of the polytheists.
Or, it may refer to the Messenger, meaning: to prevent people from opposing his religion and Sunnah, and to repel their doubts.
Third Note: (وَتُوَقِّرُوهُ) — the pronoun here also carries both possibilities. If referring to Allah, then honoring Him means: mentioning His name with reverence, worshiping Him alone, and believing in His perfect attributes.
If referring to the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), then honoring him includes: not calling him merely by name, respecting his Sunnah, sending blessings and peace upon him with his name, and fully following him.
Fourth Note: (وَتُسَبِّحُوهُ) — this pronoun refers only to Allah the Exalted, meaning: to glorify and exalt Him.
