َ حم 1235 محمَّد
وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ هِيَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةً مِنْ قَرْيَتِكَ الَّتِي أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ ﴿۱۳﴾ أَفَمَنْ كَانَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِ كَمَنْ زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُوءُ عَمَلِهِ وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ ﴿۱۴﴾ مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ لَبَنٍ لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ عَسَلٍ مُصَفًّى وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَالِدٌ فِي النَّارِ وَسُقُوا مَاءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَاءَهُمْ ﴿۱۵﴾
﴾13﴿ Wa ka ayyim min qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatam min qaryatikal lateee akhrajatka ahlaknaahum falaa naasira lahum
﴾14﴿ Afaman kaana 'alaa baiyinatim mir Rabbihee kaman zuyyina lahoo sooo'u 'amalihee wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum
﴾15﴿ Masalul jannatil latee wu'idal muttaqoona feehaaa anhaarum min maaa'in ghayri aasininw wa anhaarum mil labanil lam yataghaiyar ta'muhoo wa anhaarum min khamril lazzatin li shaaribeena wa anhaarum min 'asalim musaffanw wa lahum feeha min kullis samaraati wa maghfiratum mir Rabbihim kaman huwa khaalidun fin naari wa suqoo maaa'an hameeman faqatta'a am'aaa'ahum
﴾13﴿ And many a town that was stronger in might than your town, which cast you out, We destroyed them, and they had no helper
﴾14﴿ Is the one who stands upon clear evidence from his Lord like the one whose evil deeds have been made attractive to him and who follows his desires
﴾15﴿ The description of the Paradise that has been promised to the righteous: in it are rivers of water that do not spoil, rivers of milk whose taste does not change, rivers of wine delightful to those who drink it, and rivers of purified honey. And for them therein are all kinds of fruits and forgiveness from their Lord. (Is such a one) like the one who will abide eternally in the Fire and be given boiling water to drink, which will sever their intestines
[13] This is a consolation to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) and a worldly warning to the deniers.
[14] In this, the causes of consolation and warning (mentioned earlier) are stated, along with the contrast between the two groups. It mentions one state of the believers and two states of the disbelievers—(عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِ) refers to the fact that the believers are free from blameworthy imitation (rigid blind following); rather, they follow clear evidence.
(كَمَنْ زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُوءُ عَمَلِهِ)—that is, shirk and innovations appear to him as righteous deeds.
(وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ)—meaning they act without any divine revelation as proof, and instead follow desires (hawā), which are not a valid source of guidance.
[15] Before this verse, glad tidings of Paradise were mentioned, and now its details are explained—highlighting the contrast between the two groups in terms of their reward.
(فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ) – This describes only the types of drinks. Since water is the most beloved among drinks, it is mentioned first.
(غَيْرِ آسِنٍ) – Unlike worldly water, which sometimes changes in taste due to its nature or external factors, such as stagnation or the formation of green layers.
(وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ لَبَنٍ) – After water, milk is closest to human nature, so it is mentioned second.
(لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُ) – Unlike worldly milk, which spoils after being drawn from the udder or over time.
(وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ خَمْرٍ) – Human nature inclines toward extracts from fruits and grains, from which wine is made, hence it is the third to be mentioned.
(لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ) – Its taste, color, and effect do not cause aversion. It has an intrinsic delight, unlike worldly wine, which is repulsive in taste, smell, and effect—yet artificial factors create a temporary pleasure in it.
(وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ عَسَلٍ) – Human nature also desires sweetness in drinks. The sweetness in most sweet things is incidental and often harmful, but the sweetness of honey is inherent and beneficial—it is healing. Moreover, honey is the extract of various flowers and herbs, making it similar in nature to wine.
(وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ) – After mentioning drinks, this briefly refers to all kinds of foods.
(وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ) – This indicates that, unlike in the world where a host might feel burdened by a guest, in Paradise, Allah is pleased with all and thus forgives their sins.
(وَسُقُوا مَاءً حَمِيمًا) – This is in contrast to the drinks of Paradise. This boiling water is such that when one brings it near their face, their face burns, and the skin falls off into the container—similar to what is mentioned in Surah Al-Kahf (18:29). Then it tears apart the internal organs, and as mentioned in hadith, the pieces come out from beneath them.
(اللّهم اجرنا من النار) – O Allah, protect us from the Fire.
