إِلَيْهِ يُرَدَُّ 1168 حٰمٓ السجدة
وَإِذَا أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَأَى بِجَانِبِهِ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاءٍ عَرِيضٍ ﴿۵۱﴾ قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ كَفَرْتُمْ بِهِ مَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنْ هُوَ فِي شِقَاقٍ بَعِيدٍ ﴿۵۲﴾ سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ﴿۵۳﴾ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِنْ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ أَلَا إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُحِيطٌ ﴿۵۴﴾
﴾51﴿ Wa izaaa an'amnaa 'alal insaani a'rada wa na-aa bijaani bihee wa izaa massahush sharru fazoo du'aaa'in 'areed
﴾52﴿ Qul araaitum in kaana min 'indil laahi summa kafar tum bihee man adallu mimman huwa fee shiqaqim ba'eed
﴾53﴿ Qul araaitum in kaana min 'indil laahi summa kafar tum bihee man adallu mimman huwa fee shiqaqim ba'eed
﴾54﴿ Alaaa innahum fee miryatim mil liqaaa'i Rabbihim; alaaa innahoo bikulli shai'im muheet
﴾51﴿ And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself. But when adversity touches him, he is full of extensive supplication
﴾52﴿ Say, Tell me, if this Qur'an is from Allah and you disbelieve in it, then who is more astray than the one who is in extreme opposition
﴾53﴿ Soon We shall show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this (Qur'an) is the truth. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is a Witness over all things
﴾54﴿ Be aware! Indeed, they are in doubt about meeting their Lord. Be aware! Indeed, He encompasses all things
[51] This is the third rebuke regarding the scattered and inconsistent actions of a human being, following the mention of his words:
"So he is full of extensive supplication" (fa-dhū du‘ā’in ‘arīḍ) — since width (arḍ) is mentioned, it implies that length must be even greater, because when something has width, its length is usually more.
The intended meaning of ‘arīḍ here is abundance — it points to the fact that the person repeats one specific request over and over, but does not ask Allah the Exalted for other needs.
Repeating a single request is referred to as width, while mentioning many varied requests is referred to as length.
[52] This is the fourth rebuke — for the denial of the Qur'an.
[53] After the rebukes, there is encouragement toward the truth.
The meaning of "signs (āyāt)" here is rational proofs, and they are of two types: one — external signs (afāqī), and the other — internal signs (anfusī).
Or, this may be a warning, and "signs" refers to the events of previous nations, whose ruins still exist across various parts of the earth.
And "within themselves" refers to illnesses and trials experienced by the people.
[54] After establishing the truth through proofs, there is a rebuke directed at the deniers, introduced with the word "Alā" (Behold) — indicating that the doubt of these deniers is clear and evident.
Likewise, the encompassing knowledge and power of Allah the Exalted over all things is also manifest and undeniable.
