فَمَنْ أَظْلَمَُ 1161 حٰمٓ السجدة
ذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ أَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ النَّارُ لَهُمْ فِيهَا دَارُ الْخُلْدِ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ ﴿۲۸﴾ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا رَبَّنَا أَرِنَا اللَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ الْأَسْفَلِينَ ﴿۲۹﴾ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ ﴿۳۰﴾
﴾28﴿ Zaalika jazaaa'u a'daaa'il laahin Naaru lahum feehaa daarul khuld, jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo bi aayaatinaa yajhadoon
﴾29﴿ Wa qaalal lazeena kafaroo Rabbanaaa arinal lazaini adal laanaa minal jinni wal insi naj'alhumaa tahta aqdaaminaa liyakoonaa minal asfaleen
﴾30﴿ Innal lazeena qaaloo Rabbunal laahu summas taqaamoo tatanazzalu 'alaihimul malaaa 'ikatu allaa takhaafoo wa laa tahzanoo wa abshiroo bil Jannnatil latee kuntum too'adoon
﴾28﴿ This is the recompense of the enemies of Allah: the Fire. For them therein is the eternal home, as a recompense for what they used to deny of Our signs
﴾29﴿ And the disbelievers will say, Our Lord, show us those two who led us astray from among the jinn and mankind, so we may put them under our feet, that they may be among the lowest
﴾30﴿ Indeed, those who say, Our Lord is Allah and then remain steadfast, the angels will descend upon them, saying, Do not fear and do not grieve, but receive glad tidings of the Paradise that you were promised
[28] In this verse, the warning is given in two ways:
First, that their punishment is the complete Fire, indicated by the use of "النَّارُ" in the definite form, which signifies its fullness and intensity.
Second, that this Fire is their eternal abode (Dar al-Khuld).
Two rulings are also mentioned:
First, that these people are the clear enemies of Allah the Exalted.
Second, that they deny the signs of Allah the Exalted out of stubborn hostility.
[29] In this verse, the warning is given in one way, which is essentially regret over having followed the misguided elders.
This refers back to the previous verse (25), where it is mentioned that in the world, they had worthless companions (qaranā’), and in the Hereafter, those misled ones will say about them:
(لِيَكُونَا مِنَ الْأَسْفَلِينَ) — "so that they may be among the lowest."
Meaning: Just as they humiliated us in the world and sat high upon our shoulders, now we wish for them to be beneath us and humiliated today.
However, this statement of theirs is merely a kind of wish, and in reality, it will not be fulfilled.
[30] After mentioning the condition of those who oppose the Qur'an, now the state of the people of the Qur'an is mentioned, in the form of glad tidings.
(قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ) — This belief is formed in them due to the effect of the Qur'an.
What is meant here is complete faith and perfect monotheism — that Allah is the Creator, the Owner, the One worthy of worship, the Nourisher, and the One capable of fulfilling all needs.
Here, the word “Rabb” includes all divine attributes.
(ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا) — The meaning is that they remain steadfast in their belief in monotheism and faith until death.
Regarding this steadfastness, it is narrated from Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that it means to remain firm upon commands and prohibitions and not hide like cowards, swaying between sides.
From ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), it is narrated that it means sincerity in every action for the sake of Allah the Exalted.
From ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), it is narrated that it means fulfilling all the obligatory acts.
And these glad tidings are mentioned in eight ways, which are referred to as the honors (karamat) of the saints (awliya).
So, it becomes clear that the definition of a true saint (wali) is one who says “Rabbunā Allah” and possesses the attribute of steadfastness (istiqamah).
In this verse, glad tidings are mentioned in four ways — this includes their appearance in dreams, along with true dreams, at the time of death, upon rising from the grave, and during the gathering on the Day of Judgement.
