فَمَنْ أَظْلَمَُ 1160 حٰمٓ السجدة

وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاءَ فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُمْ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا خَاسِرِينَ ﴿۲۵﴾ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَذَا الْقُرْآنِ وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ ﴿۲۶﴾ فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَسْوَأَ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۲۷﴾

﴾25﴿ Wa qaiyadnaa lahum quranaaa'a fazaiyanoo lahum maa baina aideehim wa maa khalfahum wa haqqa 'alaihimul qawlu feee umamin qad khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal insi innahum kaanoo khaasireen
﴾26﴿ Wa qaalal lazeena kafaroo laa tasma'oo lihaazal Quraani walghaw feehi la'allakum taghliboon
﴾27﴿ Falanuzeeqannal lazeena kafaroo 'azaaban shadeedanw wa lanajziyannahum aswallazee kaanoo ya'maloon

﴾25﴿ And We appointed for them companions (devils), so they adorned for them what was before them and what was behind them, and the decree was justified against them, joining the groups that had passed before them of jinn and humans. Indeed, they were the losers
﴾26﴿ And the disbelievers say, Do not listen to this Quran and create commotion (noise) against it so that you may prevail
﴾27﴿ So indeed, We will make those who disbelieve taste a severe punishment, and We will surely recompense them with the worst for what they used to do

[25] This is from the second section up to (44). In this, the reason for turning away from and preventing others from the Qur'an is mentioned.
Then the act of preventing others from the Qur'an is discussed again, and this is their second doubt.
The response to it is given with the warning of the Hereafter.
Then, glad tidings are given for steadfastness during times of doubts.
Then, the method of invitation is brought up again, followed by two rational arguments and a warning to those who engage in heresy.
The truthfulness of the Qur'an and consolation for the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) are mentioned.
In (25), the reason for their disbelief is mentioned, and this reason also explains their turning away from and preventing others from the Qur'an.
This is also a cause for the punishment that was previously mentioned.
This refers to the second doubt.
The summary is that the deeds of the polytheists and disbelievers appear beautiful to them.
Therefore, Satanic whispers present them with arguments.
For example, they say that the power belongs to the noble saints.
When we call upon them for help, they respond to us from the graves.
Sometimes, they extend their hands and shake hands with us.
Sometimes, they appear to us in the open fields saying, “I have come to help you.”
Sometimes they appear in our dreams and promise to help.
If we stop offering them gifts, they make animals fall on us in our dreams and frighten us.
Thus, it seems justified to worship them and to say “Help us” to them.
The essence of the answer is that all of these are actions of Satan.
He uses the name of a saint for himself and does these actions so that the deeds of shirk (polytheism) appear beautiful to these people.
(فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُمْ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ)
In one interpretation, “what is before them” refers to worldly wealth, and “what is behind them” refers to the Hereafter and resurrection after death.
Another interpretation is the opposite.
The beautification of the world means that one becomes so occupied with it that he becomes heedless of religion and the Hereafter.
The beautification of the Hereafter means that he ends up denying it.
A third interpretation, mentioned by Nayshaburi, is that “what is before them” refers to the actions of the corrupt people of the present time, and “what is behind them” refers to the actions of the ancient corrupters, which include acts of shirk, disbelief, and superstitions.
And all of these appear beautiful and good to them.
[26] This is a warning based on the result of the previous verse's message—that since the devils have adorned acts of shirk (polytheism) for them, and the Qur'an clearly refutes shirk, for this reason they prevent people from listening to the Qur'an.
(الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا)—this phrase explicitly states that the one who prevents others from listening to the Qur'an is a disbeliever, regardless of the time period, based on the reasoning that Ibn Kathir mentioned: this verse includes those who follow their path when the Qur'an is being recited.
(وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ)—this means to cause disruption and noise, to criticize, to object, and to mock.
All of these meanings are included in this phrase.
Also included is occupying oneself with other sciences instead of the Qur'an, composing poetry and songs, and playing radios and other distractions—all of these fall under this expression.
[27] This is the response to the previous claim, by way of instilling fear through five methods.
In this verse, two of those methods are mentioned:
First, a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter.
Second, the emphasis on retribution through the use of the letters Lām and Nūn in "لَنُجْزِيَنَّهُمْ" (We will surely recompense them).
Also, in this verse regarding those who prevent others from the Qur'an, there are two rulings:
First, that this act is disbelief (kufr).
Second, that this act is extremely evil.
