وَمَا لِيَ 1093 الصافات
كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿۱۱۰﴾ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۱۱۱﴾ وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِإِسْحَاقَ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ﴿۱۱۲﴾ وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى إِسْحَاقَ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٌ ﴿۱۱۳﴾ وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ ﴿۱۱۴﴾ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ ﴿۱۱۵﴾ وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ ﴿۱۱۶﴾ وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَبِينَ ﴿۱۱۷﴾ وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴿۱۱۸﴾ وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي الْآخِرِينَ ﴿۱۱۹﴾ سَلَامٌ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ ﴿۱۲۰﴾ إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿۱۲۱﴾ إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۱۲۲﴾ وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿۱۲۳﴾
﴾110﴿ Kazaalika najzil muhsineen
﴾111﴿ Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
﴾112﴿ Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyam minas saaliheen
﴾113﴿ Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafsihee mubeen
﴾114﴿ Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
﴾115﴿ Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem
﴾116﴿ Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen
﴾117﴿ Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen
﴾118﴿ Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem
﴾119﴿ Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen
﴾120﴿ Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
﴾121﴿ Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
﴾122﴿ Innahumaa min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
﴾123﴿ Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen
﴾110﴿ Thus do We reward the doers of good
﴾111﴿ Indeed, he was among Our believing servants
﴾112﴿ And We gave him glad tidings of Isaac, peace be upon him, who was a prophet and among the righteous
﴾113﴿ And We blessed him and Isaac, peace be upon him, and among their descendants are those who do good and those who clearly wrong themselves
﴾114﴿ And indeed, We bestowed Our favor upon Moses, peace be upon him, and Aaron, peace be upon him
﴾115﴿ And We saved them and their people from the great distress
﴾116﴿ And We supported them, so they became victorious
﴾117﴿ And We gave them the Book containing clear commandments
﴾118﴿ And We guided both of them to the straight path
﴾119﴿ And We left for both of them a favorable mention among later generations
﴾120﴿ Peace be upon Moses, peace be upon him, and Aaron, peace be upon him
﴾121﴿ Indeed, thus do We reward the doers of good9
﴾122﴿ Indeed, both of them were among Our believing servants
﴾123﴿ And indeed, Elias was certainly among the messengers
[112] This is the second glad tidings, which makes it clear that the first glad tidings were regarding Ishmael (peace be upon him).
[113] This indicates that they were in need of Allah, the Exalted, for blessings.
When "عَلَى" (upon) is used with barakah (blessing), it implies that the effects of these blessings appear outwardly as well as inwardly.
When "فِي" (in) is used, it refers to inner, spiritual blessings.
(وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا) – meaning, their offspring were of two kinds: monotheists and non-monotheists.
This points to the fact that the appearance of prophets from someone’s descendants does not guarantee salvation for the father if he is unjust and a polytheist.
Likewise, if the children become polytheists or wrongdoers, it does not bring harm to the father as long as he himself is righteous.
[from 114 to 122] This is the third story, in which it mentions the need of Musa and Harun (peace be upon them) for Allah, the Exalted, in all blessings and perfections.
First: the favor of prophethood.
Second: salvation from drowning.
Third: help and victory.
Fourth: the Book of Allah.
Fifth: guidance to the straight path.
Sixth: good praise and well-being.
Seventh: reward for their goodness and sincerity.
In the end, their special servitude to Allah is mentioned.
This proves that they cannot be deified or taken as intercessors in shirk.
(الْمُسْتَبِين) means that it is full of clear light and encompasses knowledge and wisdom—and this refers to the Torah.
[from 123 to 132] This is the fourth story – in it, the servitude of Elias (peace be upon him) is mentioned, in the manner of calling towards monotheism and rejecting polytheism, and again, his dependence on Allah the Exalted is mentioned in praiseworthy attributes and peace, and in the end, his special servitude is mentioned.
(وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ) – It is agreed upon by the commentators that he was a messenger among the Children of Israel at the time when they had fallen into polytheism. So Allah the Exalted sent him as a messenger. According to a narration from ‘Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him), his name was Idris. It is possible that Elias was his title and Idris his actual name, or the reverse.
As for the narration which has been reported by Qurtubi and others that he (Elias) is alive and that the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace) met him – Suyuti has transmitted from Imam Dhahabi that this hadith is fabricated. Similarly, the hadith regarding Khidr and Elias (peace be upon them) has been mentioned by the Sufis without chain of narration.
(بَعْلًا) – The commentators have written that the idol Baal had the form of a woman, was made of gold, and was twenty cubits tall. It had four hundred attendants, and Satan would sometimes enter the idol and speak misleading words to the people. Bak was the king of that place, and he named the city Baalbek after it.
