وَمَنْ يَقْنُتَْْ 1067 يٰسٓ

لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَا أُنْذِرَ آبَاؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَافِلُونَ ﴿۶﴾ لَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿۷﴾ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ أَغْلَالًا فَهِيَ إِلَى الْأَذْقَانِ فَهُمْ مُقْمَحُونَ ﴿۸﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ ﴿۹﴾ وَسَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿۱۰﴾

﴾6﴿ Litunzira qawmam maaa unzira aabaaa'uhum fahum ghaafiloon
﴾7﴿ Laqad haqqal qawlu 'alaaa aksarihim fahum laa yu'minoon
﴾8﴿ Innaa ja'alnaa feee a'naaqihim aghlaalan fahiya ilal azqaani fahum muqmahoon
﴾9﴿ Wa ja'alnaa min baini aydeehim saddanw-wa min khalfihim saddan fa aghshai naahum fahum laa yubsiroon
﴾10﴿ Wa sawaaa'un 'alaihim 'a-anzartahum am lam tunzirhum laa yu'minoon

﴾6﴿ So that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and thus they are heedless
﴾7﴿ Indeed, the proof has been fully established against most of them, so they will not believe
﴾8﴿ Indeed, We place shackles around their necks, reaching up to their chins, so that their heads are forced upwards
﴾9﴿ And We place a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and We cover them, so they do not see
﴾10﴿ And it is the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them—they will not believe

[6] This mentions the purpose of Prophethood, and it also indicates that this final Prophet was sent at a time when the people of the world were in need of his message due to their heedlessness.
This also highlights the greatness and high status of this Prophet.
[7] Since the purpose of Prophethood—warning—was mentioned, a question arises: why then do all people not believe?
This verse answers that by mentioning the barrier (i.e., the hindrance that prevents them from believing).
[8] In this verse, there are three interpretations:
1. First interpretation: Many commentators mention the incident involving Abu Jahl and other disbelievers who tried to harm the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace) and attempted to prevent him from prayer and calling to Allah.
So, their hands were tied to their necks—either metaphorically or as an actual punishment.
2. Second interpretation: This describes the state of punishment for these disbelievers on the Day of Judgment—thus, it is a warning regarding the Hereafter (تخویف اخروی).
3. Third interpretation: It is a metaphor for the barrier that prevents them from believing.
The second part of the verse gives another reason for their disbelief:
"Shackles in their necks" is a metaphor for their blind imitation of misguided leaders, without any evidence.
Just like a wide collar around a person’s neck keeps the head up so that he cannot see the path—he crashes or falls into a pit—likewise, these people, due to blind imitation of polytheistic elders, are deprived of guidance.
[9] In this verse too, the same three interpretations apply:
1. First interpretation: The disbelievers intended to strike the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), so Allah the Exalted trapped them between walls.
Thus, a miraculous proof was established against them, yet they still did not believe.
2. Second interpretation: This describes their condition in Hell, so it serves as a warning of the Hereafter (تخویف اخروی).
3. Third interpretation: This is a metaphor and presents the third barrier to guidance.
Just as when a person is surrounded by walls in front and behind, he cannot move forward or backward, and his eyes are also blinded—
likewise, the wall of doubts regarding the Hereafter blocks them from seeing the truth about the next life, and the wall of desires regarding the world blocks them from seeing the truth about this life.
As a result, they are blind to the truth and deprived of guidance.
[10] This is the fourth barrier and its explanation: due to their stubbornness, whether you warn them or do not warn them—it is all the same to them.
