﴾35﴿ Allazeee ahallanaa daaral muqaamati min fadlihee laa yamassunaa feehaa nasabunw wa laa yamassunaa feehaa lughoob
﴾36﴿ Wallazeena kafaroo lahum naaru Jahannama laa yuqdaa 'alaihim fa yamootoo wa laa yukhaffafu 'anhum min 'azaabihaa; kazaalika najzee kulla kafoor
﴾37﴿ Wa hum yastarikhoona feehaa Rabbanaa akhrijnaa na'mal saalihan ghairal lazee kunnaa na'mal; awa lamnu 'ammirkum maa yatazak karu feehi man tazakkara wa jaaa'akumun nazeeru fazooqoo famaa lizzaalimeena min naseer
﴾38﴿ Innal laaha 'aalimu ghaibis samaawaati wal ard; innahoo 'aleemum bizaatis sudoor
﴾35﴿ The One who has admitted us into the eternal abode out of His bounty, where neither hardship will touch us nor weariness will afflict us
﴾36﴿ And those who disbelieve will have the fire of Hell; neither will they be decreed to die so that they may perish, nor will its punishment be lessened for them. Thus do We recompense every stubborn disbeliever
﴾37﴿ And they will cry out therein, O our Lord! Bring us out so that we may do righteous deeds other than what we used to do. (It will be said to them,) Did We not grant you a lifespan long enough for whoever would take heed to do so, And a warner had come to you. So taste (the punishment), for the wrongdoers will have no helper
﴾38﴿ Indeed, Allah Almighty is the Knower of the unseen of the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is fully aware of what is in the hearts of people
[36] This warning about the Hereafter for the deniers is presented in three forms.
[37] This too is a warning, mentioned in four ways:
"غَيْرَ الَّذِي كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ"—this phrase indicates that they used to consider their deeds as righteous ("وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا").
Now it has become clear to them that those deeds were not righteous, which is why this qualifier is included.
"مَا يَتَذَكَّرُ فِيهِ"—according to a hadith in Bukhari, Allah the Exalted gives a person sixty years of life, removing every excuse from him.
"النَّذِيرُ"—this refers to the Prophet, or the Book of Allah, or any true caller to guidance, or old age (i.e., the white hair that serves as a reminder).
[38] This is the third section up to the end of the surah.
In it, there are three rational proofs, a demand for proof from the polytheists, and a rebuke directed at the people of shirk.
At the end, there is a detailed worldly warning (punishment in this life).
In verse 38, the eleventh rational proof is about Allah the Exalted’s knowledge of the unseen.
This also alludes to a response to the polytheists—meaning, Allah the Exalted knows that even if you were returned to the world, you still would not perform righteous deeds.
