وَمَنْ يَقْنُتَْْ 1027 الأحزاب
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا ﴿۴۵﴾ وَدَاعِيًا إِلَى اللَّهِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَسِرَاجًا مُنِيرًا ﴿۴۶﴾ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَضْلًا كَبِيرًا ﴿۴۷﴾ وَلَا تُطِعِ الْكَافِرِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَدَعْ أَذَاهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ وَكِيلًا ﴿۴۸﴾ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نَكَحْتُمُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ فَمَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ عِدَّةٍ تَعْتَدُّونَهَا فَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ وَسَرِّحُوهُنَّ سَرَاحًا جَمِيلًا ﴿۴۹﴾
﴾45﴿ Yaaa aiyuhan Nabiyyu innaaa arsalnaaka shaahidanw wa mubashshiranw wa nazeeraa
﴾46﴿ Wa daa'iyan ilal laahi bi iznihee wa siraajam muneeraa
﴾47﴿ Wa bashshiril mu'mineena bi annna lahum minal laahi fadlan kabeera
﴾48﴿ Wa laa tuti'il kaafireena walmunaafiqeena wa da'azaahum wa tawakkal 'alallaah; wa kafaa billaahi Wakeelaa
﴾49﴿ Yaaa aiyuhal lazeena aamanooo izaa nakahtumul mu'minaati summa tallaqtu moohunna min qabli an tamas soohunna famaa lakum 'alaihinna min 'iddatin ta'taddoonahaa famatti'oohunna wa sarri hoohunna saraahan jameelaa
﴾45﴿ O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a clear expositor, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner
﴾46﴿ And as one who invites to Allah, by His command, and as a shining lamp
﴾47﴿ And give glad tidings to the believers that indeed for them is a great bounty from Allah
﴾48﴿ And do not accept the words of the disbelievers and hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and place your trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Guardian
﴾49﴿ O believers, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have consummated the marriage with them, then there is no waiting period for you to count concerning them. So provide for them and release them with a gracious release
[45,46,47,48] In these verses, there are five addresses to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and five names or titles of the Prophet are mentioned:
1. "Shāhidan" — meaning a witness over his ummah, either through delivering the message or testifying for or against them.
Another interpretation is a clarifier — one who explains.
Both meanings are supported in Lisān al-‘Arab, but the second meaning fits better here, because the two descriptions that follow further explain the role of clarification.
2. "Sajājan" — a lamp.
Neither sun nor moon is used here, because they disappear and their light does not remain.
But a lamp (sirāj) can continue to give light even after it’s removed, and one can also kindle another light from it.
This reflects the unique station of the Prophet — his light and guidance continue even after his time.
"Wa lā tuṭi‘" — do not obey — this refers to the state of those deprived of this light, i.e., disbelievers and hypocrites.
Since, due to the Prophet’s marriage to Zaynab, disbelievers and hypocrites increased in mockery and accusations (adhā), this verse responds with:
"Wa da‘ adhāhum" — ignore their harm, their insults and mockery — pay them no attention, remain patient, and do not even respond.
[49] This is an address to the believers.
Its connection to the previous verses is that: Do not be like the disbelievers and hypocrites in causing harm — rather, even to women from whom you have taken no benefit, and upon whom you have no remaining rights, you must still show kindness and not cause harm.
From this, it becomes clear that those from whom you gain religious benefit should never be harmed in any way.
For this reason, the verse specifically mentions the case of a woman who has not yet been consummated with (ghayr al-madkhūl bihā) — which is the lowest level of marital connection — so by default, the one with whom marriage was consummated deserves even more kindness.
"Famatta‘ūhunna" — provide them a gift:
If the mahr (dowry) had already been specified before divorce, then this refers to half of the mahr.
If it had not been specified, then the minimum is to give a set of clothing, such as a dress, scarf, and shoes.
"Sarāḥan jamīlan" — a gracious release — means if you have already given something, then true good character demands that you do not ask for it back.
