اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَْ 1016 الأحزاب

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ فَإِذَا جَاءَ الْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَالَّذِي يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ الْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُمْ بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ أَشِحَّةً عَلَى الْخَيْرِ أُولَئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا فَأَحْبَطَ اللَّهُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ يَسِيرًا ﴿۱۹﴾ يَحْسَبُونَ الْأَحْزَابَ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا وَإِنْ يَأْتِ الْأَحْزَابُ يَوَدُّوا لَوْ أَنَّهُمْ بَادُونَ فِي الْأَعْرَابِ يَسْأَلُونَ عَنْ أَنْبَائِكُمْ وَلَوْ كَانُوا فِيكُمْ مَا قَاتَلُوا إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ﴿۲۰﴾ لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا ﴿۲۱﴾

﴾19﴿ Ashihhatan 'alaikum faizaa jaaa'al khawfu ra aytahum yanzuroona ilaika tadooru a'yunuhum kallazee yughshaa 'alaihi minal mawti fa izaa zahabal khawfu salqookum bi alsinatin hidaadin ashihhatan 'alal khayr; ulaaa'ika lam yu'minoo fa ahbatal laahu a'maalahum; wa kaana zaalika 'alal laahi yaseeraa
﴾20﴿ Yahsaboonal Ahzaaba lam yazhaboo wa iny yaatil Ahzaabu yawaddoo law annahum baadoona fil A'raabi yasaloona 'an ambaaa'ikum wa law kaanoo feekum maa qaatalooo illaa qaleela
﴾21﴿ Laqad kaana lakum fee Rasoolil laahi uswatun hasanatul liman kaana yarjul laaha wal yawmal Aakhira wa zakaral laaha kaseeraa

﴾19﴿ They are stingy towards you, and when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like one who is overcome by the fear of death. But when the fear departs, they lash at you with sharp tongues, being greedy for wealth. These are the ones who have not truly believed, so Allah has nullified their deeds, and that is easy for Allah
﴾20﴿ They think that the groups of disbelievers have not left, and if those groups were to come again, these (hypocrites) would wish they were dwelling in the desert, inquiring about your news. And if they were among you, they would not fight except a little
﴾21﴿ Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you have a good example to follow for whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much

[19] In this verse, five more disgraceful traits of the hypocrites are mentioned:
1. "Ashihhah" — the plural of shaḥīḥ, referring to extreme stinginess and greed.
2. "Fa-idhā jā’a al-khawf" — this points to their cowardice; al-khawf refers to the fear brought by news of battle or the enemy’s attack.
3. "Salaqūkum" — meaning they lash out with sharp and boastful words, saying things like: “We were with you in the battle, so give us our share of the spoils.”
4. "Ashihhah ‘ala al-khayr" — again highlights their greed, this time specifically in coveting wealth and spoils.
5. Their hypocrisy — that they pretend to support in times of fear, but their aim is worldly gain, not sincerity.
[20] This is also a rebuke, and in it, three more disgraceful traits of the hypocrites are mentioned.
It also contains a reference to their cowardice — meaning, even if they are told that the enemies have departed, they still do not believe it due to their overwhelming fear.
This shows the depth of their fear and weakness of faith.
[21] This is the fourth address to the believers, emphasizing the following of the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and it serves as a refutation of the hypocrites.
They neither participated in jihad, nor — if they did — was it done with sincerity.
This verse refutes them by showing that the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) participated in jihad with complete sincerity — so follow him.
In this verse, there is strong emphasis on following the Prophet, and the word "uswah" is used — a specific term that refers to following in such a way that there is real likeness and full emulation.
It includes healing for the heart and consolation.
"Dhakara Allāha kathīrā" — here, dhikr (remembrance of Allah) refers to all acts of worship, because dhikr is the highest of all forms of worship.
"Kathīrā" (much) refers to dhikr done with the proper shar‘ī conditions — that is, with sincerity, following the Sunnah, and understanding its meaning.
Even if such dhikr is little in quantity, it is considered much in value before Allah.
On the other hand, dhikr done through innovation (bid‘ah) — such as shouting, assigning specific times or limits without basis, using a single repeated word (like just Allah), or not understanding its meaning — is not accepted.
This has been explained in Tafsīr Rūḥ al-Ma‘ānī under verse 41.
The essence of the phrase "liman kāna yarjū Allāha…" is that whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, and performs actions solely for Allah, will follow and emulate this Messenger.
The word dhikr is also included because a person who remembers Allah has an awakened heart and is thus ready to follow the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
But one who is heedless is weak in his obedience and following.
