اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَْ 987 الروم

بَلِ اتَّبَعَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ فَمَنْ يَهْدِي مَنْ أَضَلَّ اللَّهُ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ نَاصِرِينَ ﴿۲۹﴾ فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًا فِطْرَتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۳۰﴾ مُنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿۳۱﴾

﴾29﴿ Balit taba'al lazeena zalamooo ahwaaa'ahum bighairi 'ilmin famai yahdee man adallal laahu wa maa lahum min naasireen
﴾30﴿ Fa aqim wajhaka liddeeni Haneefaa; fitratal laahil latee fataran naasa 'alaihaa; laa taabdeela likhalqil laah; zaalikad deenul qaiyimu wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa ya'lamoon
﴾31﴿ Muneebeena ilaihi wattaqoohu wa aqeemus Salaata wa laa takoonoo minal mushrikeen

﴾29﴿ Rather, those who have wronged followed their own desires without any reason. So who can guide those whom Allah has led astray, And they will have no helpers
﴾30﴿ Then, adhere firmly to the religion of God, the one who created mankind without any alteration. This is the enduring religion of Allah, but most people do not know
﴾31﴿ Turn to Him and fear Him, and uphold the prayer, and do not be of the polytheists

[29] This is a rebuke, stating that despite the clear evidences and examples, the reason for the deniers’ rejection is their following of desires (hawā).
In such a state—where the rejection of proofs and examples is due to the pursuit of desire—guidance will not be granted to them.
(Bighayri ʿilm) is a phrase added to emphasize their ignorance—meaning that if the following of desire were accompanied by knowledge, then sometimes that knowledge would restrain a person from following desire.
[30] Since in the previous verse a rebuke was made regarding following desires, this verse now directs attention to following the true religion, which is the natural religion—meaning pure monotheism.
From this verse, the foundational principles for attaining divine help are mentioned, which is the main claim of the surah.
Fiṭrah is on the pattern of fiʿlah, from faṭara, meaning the original state of creation. Allah Most High created all people upon this natural state, and that nature is monotheism—proven by the authentic hadith:
"Every child is born upon the fiṭrah, but it is his parents who make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian."
This means that if no external influences or obstacles intervene, a person will always remain upon the belief in the oneness of Allah.
(Lā tabdīla li-khalqi-llāh)—"There is no changing the creation of Allah"—has several interpretations:
1. Khalq Allāh refers to fiṭrah (natural disposition), meaning no person is born with a belief contrary to monotheism.
2. It could mean Allah’s decree—whatever He has destined for someone, whether wretchedness or happiness, cannot be changed.
3. Or khalq Allāh means the religion of Allah; in that case, the phrase is a prohibition in meaning: “Do not alter the religion of Allah, the religion of monotheism, by associating it with shirk (polytheism).”
