﴾10﴿ Summa kaana'aaqibatal lazeena asaaa'us sooo aaa an kazzaboo bi aayaatil laahi wa kaanoo bihaa yastahzi'oon
﴾6﴿ God Almighty has promised, and He does not break His promise. Allah is exalted, He keeps His word, but most people do not know
﴾7﴿ They know what is apparent in the life of this world, but they are heedless of the Hereafter
﴾8﴿ Do they not reflect upon themselves? Allah Almighty has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except in truth and for a fixed promise. Yet, indeed, many people are in denial of the meeting with their Lord
﴾9﴿ Do they not travel through the earth to see what was the end of those before them, They were more powerful than them, they cultivated the land and populated it more than they have. Prophets came to them with clear signs. It was not Allah Almighty who wronged them, but they wronged themselves
﴾10﴿ So, the end of those who did evil was disastrous because they denied the signs of Allah Almighty and they were the ones who mocked them
[6] This is an emphasis of the previous glad tidings.
(lā ya‘lamūn) — refers to the deniers who reject the support of Allah the Exalted; they do not attribute these major changes and victories to Allah at all.
And in this is a rebuke for their lack of knowledge.
[7] This is the second rebuke regarding worldly knowledge and experience—meaning they have much experience in trades, commerce, agriculture, development, and so on, and they are well-informed in the flawed politics of the world.
(wa hum ‘ani’l-ākhirati hum ghāfilūn) — this is the second rebuke, highlighting their heedlessness of the Hereafter.
[8] This is the fourth rebuke regarding the denial of monotheism and resurrection after death, due to their lack of reflection.
(wa inna kathīran) — in this is the fifth rebuke, which is for denying the Day of Judgment.
[9] This is the sixth torment and a worldly warning, through the mention of the punishments of previous nations. From (فَيَنْظُرُوا) it is understood that traveling through lands to take lessons is a form of worship.
Then five conditions of past nations are mentioned:
They were stronger than them, meaning they were greatly engaged in cultivating farmlands and extracting minerals from the earth.
They were deeply occupied in building and developing, meaning they were worldly and considered advancement in worldly affairs to be the highest success.
Allah, the Exalted, sent many messengers to inform them, so that their attention might turn toward the divine religion.
4. (وَلَكِنْ كَانُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ) – They committed disbelief, polytheism, innovations, and other sins. This is oppression against themselves, because due to this, their worldly blessings were destroyed and they were ruined.
[10] This is a warning about the Hereafter.
