أَمَّنْ خَلَقََْ 950 القصص
أُولَئِكَ يُؤْتَوْنَ أَجْرَهُمْ مَرَّتَيْنِ بِمَا صَبَرُوا وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ ﴿۵۴﴾ وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا اللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا لَنَا أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِي الْجَاهِلِينَ ﴿۵۵﴾ إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ ﴿۵۶﴾
﴾54﴿ Ulaaa'ika yu'tawna ajrahum marratayni bimaa sabaroo wa yadra'oona bil hasanatis saiyi'ata wa mimmmaa razaq naahum yunfiqoon
﴾55﴿ Wa izaa sami'ul laghwa a'radoo 'anhu wa qaaloo lanaaa a'maalunaa wa lakum a'maalukum salaamun 'alaikum laa nabtaghil jaahileen
﴾56﴿ Innaka laa tahdee man ahbabta wa laakinn Allaha yahdee mai yashaaa'; wa huwa a'lamu bil muhtadeen
﴾54﴿ This verse refers to those who will be given their reward twice because they were patient, repelled evil with good, and spent from what We had provided them in the cause of Allah
﴾55﴿ And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say: To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be upon you. We seek not the ignorant
﴾56﴿ Indeed, you cannot guide those you love, but Allah guides whom He wills, and He knows best who are the guided
[54] There are three qualities mentioned here: patience, repelling evil with good, and giving charity (twice). Since in the previous verses belief in the Quran and belief in the Torah were mentioned, two rewards are also mentioned here.
"يَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ" – These words are general and encompass many matters.
In "الْحَسَنَةِ" (good), are included good character, gentle speech, patience and endurance, repentance, seeking forgiveness, calling to monotheism (Tawhid), and adherence to the Sunnah.
In "السَّيِّئَةَ" (evil), which is the opposite of الْحَسَنَةِ, are included bad character, harsh words, insults and mockery, sins, polytheism (shirk), and innovations (bid‘ah).
[55] There are four qualities mentioned here regarding turning away from vain talk: it means not responding to vain talk, not accepting it, not participating in it. "Vain talk" (لغو) is general and includes mockery, insults, play, love poetry, and similar things. This is also found in Surah Al-Furqan (25:72).
“سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ” – This is a farewell type of greeting, meaning: our religion and your religion are separate. We do not respond to you with insults or the like. If it is interpreted to mean “we will not fight with you,” then that meaning is abrogated. This type of "salaam" is not a greeting of peace, but a disengagement. A similar example is found earlier in Surah Al-Furqan (25:63).
“لَا نَبْتَغِي الْجَاهِلِينَ” – This means: we do not desire the way, character, or companionship of the ignorant.
[56] This is the answer to a question. The question is: since this Prophet is truthful, then why do his relatives not believe in him? The essence of the answer is that the success of guidance is in the hands of Allah the Exalted.
And in this verse is a refutation of associating others with Allah in matters of control—meaning that guidance is not in the hands of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
Here, the intended meaning of guidance is granting success and leading to the goal, and that is not within the Prophet’s control. The type of guidance that means "showing the way"—that is the responsibility of the Prophet.
