﴾28﴿ Moses, peace be upon him, said, This is the agreement between you and me: whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there shall be no obligation on me beyond that, and Allah is the Guarantor of what we say
﴾29﴿ Then, when Moses, peace be upon him, had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he saw a fire on the side of Mount Sinai. He said to his family, Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there some news or a burning brand from the fire, so that you may warm yourselves
[28] This is the acceptance of the covenant by Musa (peace be upon him), and in “whichever of the two terms” is an indication that the agreement is for eight years, and completing ten years is based on willingness.
(There is no aggression) means not to go beyond what is not required, that is, in either case, you will not demand more time from me than agreed.
(And Allah is Witness over what we say) — this is either the statement of Musa (peace be upon him) or Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him), and both of them sufficed with the testimony and guardianship of Allah, the Exalted.
And this is the station of the truly righteous.
[29] From this verse up to (35) is the fourth stage in the prophethood of Musa (peace be upon him), and in it are mentioned the two miracles, his being sent to Pharaoh and his people, and the acceptance of the supplication of Musa (peace be upon him). These are among the blessings of Allah the Exalted, accompanied by trials.
(The term) — according to a narration from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in Bukhari, Musa (peace be upon him) completed ten years because when the Messenger of Allah the Exalted says something, he fulfills it.
(And he set out with his family) — it is the right of a husband to take his family wherever he wills, as long as it is not sinful, and she should obey him.
(A burning ember) — is a piece of fire, and when it is on the tip of a stick, it is called "qabasa" (a flame taken for light or heat).
(So that I may) — in Surah Taha, it is mentioned as “so that I may,” and in this Surah, it is mentioned as “perhaps,” and this reflects the reality that the bringing of news or fire is not certain.
And in Surah Naml, the phrase “I will bring you” is used, indicating strong hope, because in Surah Naml the mentioning of wisdoms was the objective, and emphasizing wisdom serves that purpose.
Likewise, the use of the letter "س" (in "سَآتِيكُمْ") points to bringing it soon.
