وَقَالَ الَّذِينَْ 898 الشعراء

الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ ﴿۱۵۲﴾ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ ﴿۱۵۳﴾ مَا أَنْتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿۱۵۴﴾ قَالَ هَذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ ﴿۱۵۵﴾ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ﴿۱۵۶﴾ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ ﴿۱۵۷﴾ فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۱۵۸﴾ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ ﴿۱۵۹﴾ كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿۱۶۰﴾

﴾152﴿ Allazeena yufsidoona fil ardi wa laa yuslihoon
﴾153﴿ Qaalooo innamaa anta minal musahhareen
﴾154﴿ Maaa anta illaa basharum mislunaa faati bi Aayatin in kunta minas saadiqeen
﴾155﴿ Qaala haazihee naaqatul lahaa shirbunw walakum shirbu yawmim ma'loom
﴾156﴿ Wa laa tamassoohaa bisooo'in fa yaakhuzakum 'azaabu Yawmin 'Azeem
﴾157﴿ Fa'aqaroohaa fa asbahoo naadimeen
﴾158﴿ Fa akhazahumul 'azaab; inna fee zaalika la Aayah; wa maa kaana aksaruhum mu'mineen
﴾159﴿ Wa inna Rabbaka la Huwal 'Azeezur Raheem
﴾160﴿ kazzabat qawmu Lootinil mursaleen

﴾152﴿ "Those who spread corruption on earth and do not work towards reform
﴾153﴿ "They said, 'You are nothing but one of those bewitched
﴾154﴿ You are nothing but a servant like us, so bring a sign if you are among the truthful
﴾155﴿ He said, This is a she-camel; she has her turn for drinking water, and you have your turn on a specified day
﴾156﴿ And do not harm her in any way, or the punishment of a great day will seize you
﴾157﴿ So they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful
﴾158﴿ So the punishment seized them. Indeed, in this is surely a lesson, but most of them were not believers
﴾159﴿ And indeed, your Lord—He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful
﴾160﴿ The people of Lot denied the messengers

[153,154] In this, two reasons for their denial are mentioned:
(الْمُسَحَّرِينَ) — the first meaning: you are under the effect of magic;
or it could mean: you have a gall bladder — meaning you need to eat and drink like ordinary humans, implying weakness.
The second reason: you are a human like us — and then they again demanded a miracle.
[155] Their demand for a miracle was fulfilled — from a rock, a she-camel miraculously appeared for them.
They had a spring of water from which they used to give drink to their livestock, and a turn-taking arrangement was established between them and the she-camel.
[156] This highlights the reverence and etiquette that must be shown toward a miracle — and that disrespecting it becomes a cause of punishment.
[157] This was the height of disrespect and violation — instead of slaughtering the she-camel, they brutally tore her apart.
(نَادِمِينَ) — they became regretful at the time when punishment began to descend,
but at that point, repentance is no longer accepted.
[158,159] Their punishment has been mentioned in Surah A‘raf and Surah Hud.
[from 160 to 164] This is the sixth story, about Lut (peace be upon him), in which five core themes are mentioned.
This is proof that Lut (peace be upon him), like the other prophets, called his people to Tawhid and obedience, and forbade them from polytheism and disbelief.
Benefit: In Surah A‘raf, أَخُوهُمْ (their brother) is not mentioned regarding Lut (peace be upon him), because there it refers to tribal or ethnic brotherhood, and Lut was not from that people.
But in this Surah, أَخُوهُمْ is mentioned, because here it means a sincere advisor and well-wisher, and every prophet is a well-wishing brother to his people.
Another reason also given is that Lut (peace be upon him) had strong social ties with this people — thus, the term “brotherhood” here refers to that connection.
