وَقَالَ الَّذِينَْ 886 الشعراء

قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿۳۱﴾ فَأَلْقَى عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُبِينٌ ﴿۳۲﴾ وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاءُ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ ﴿۳۳﴾ قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ إِنَّ هَذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ ﴿۳۴﴾ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنْ أَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ ﴿۳۵﴾ قَالُوا أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ ﴿۳۶﴾ يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ ﴿۳۷﴾ فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ ﴿۳۸﴾ وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُجْتَمِعُونَ ﴿۳۹﴾ لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ إِنْ كَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ ﴿۴۰﴾

﴾31﴿ Qaala faati biheee in kunta minas saadiqeen
﴾32﴿ Fa alqaa 'asaahu fa izaaa hiya su'baanum mubeen
﴾33﴿ Wa naza'a yadahoo faizaa hiya baidaaa'u linnaa zireen
﴾34﴿ Qaala lilmala-i hawlahooo inna haazaa lasaahirun 'aleem
﴾35﴿ Yureedu ai yukhrijakum min ardikum bisihrihee famaazaa taamuroon
﴾36﴿ Qaalooo arjih wa akhaahu wab'as filmadaaa'ini haashireen
﴾37﴿ Yaatooka bikulli sah haarin 'aleem
﴾38﴿ Fa jumi'as saharatu limeeqaati Yawmim ma'loom
﴾39﴿ Wa qeela linnaasi hal antum mujtami'oon
﴾40﴿ La'allanaa nattabi'us saharata in kaanoo humul ghaalibeen

﴾31﴿ Pharaoh said, Then bring it, if you are of the truthful
﴾32﴿ So he cast his staff, and suddenly it was a clear serpent
﴾33﴿ And he drew out his hand, and suddenly it was white for the onlookers
﴾34﴿ Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, Indeed, he is a skilled magician
﴾35﴿ He wants to drive you out of your land
﴾36﴿ They said, Give him and his brother some respite, and send gatherers to the cities
﴾37﴿ So they may bring to you every skilled and knowledgeable magician
﴾38﴿ So the magicians were assembled at the appointed time on a well-known day
﴾39﴿ And it was said to the people, Will you gather together, (Indeed, you must gather)
﴾40﴿ So that we may follow the magicians if they are the victors

[34] From this verse up to verse 51 is the third stage, which describes the confrontation between the magicians and Musa (peace be upon him). It then details their defeat, their acceptance of faith, and their steadfastness in facing Pharaoh.
In verse 34, the statement of Pharaoh to his council (the elite assembly) is mentioned. After his words, the response of the council members among themselves is also hinted at—similar to what is clearly stated in Surah Al-A‘rāf, verse 109.
[35] Here, Pharaoh tries to discredit Musa (peace be upon him) by misrepresenting his religious mission as a worldly ambition.
He falsely claims that Musa’s goal is not to call to truth, but to gain power and overthrow the existing order—thus turning a noble divine mission into a worldly political motive in the eyes of the people.
[36,37] Since Musa (peace be upon him) said he came with a clear and manifest sign (بِشَيْءٍ مُبِينٍ), they responded with exaggeration by calling him a great magician (سَحَّارٍ) to counter his miracle.
This was an attempt to reduce the impact of his miracle in the eyes of the people by labeling it as sorcery.
[38,39] What is meant by "a known day" (يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ) is the Day of Adornment (Yawm al-Zīnah) which had been set for the confrontation, as mentioned in Surah Ṭā Hā (20:59).
"And it was said to the people: 'Will you [also gather]?'"—here, the interrogative form is meant as a command, and when combined with "it was said" (قِيلَ), it expresses a generalization attributed to the speakers, meaning a widespread announcement was made all around.
[40] They were certain that the sorcerers would prevail, and for this reason, they resolved to follow them.
It was mentioned only in terms of outward appearance, expressed in the form of a condition.
