ْقَالَ أَلَمْ 752 طٰهٰ
كَذَلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ وَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ مِنْ لَدُنَّا ذِكْرًا ﴿۹۹﴾ مَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وِزْرًا ﴿۱۰۰﴾ خَالِدِينَ فِيهِ وَسَاءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حِمْلًا ﴿۱۰۱﴾ يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ وَنَحْشُرُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ زُرْقًا ﴿۱۰۲﴾ يَتَخَافَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا عَشْرًا ﴿۱۰۳﴾ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذْ يَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَرِيقَةً إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا يَوْمًا ﴿۱۰۴﴾ وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنْسِفُهَا رَبِّي نَسْفًا ﴿۱۰۵﴾
﴾99﴿ Kazaalika naqussu 'alaika min anbaaa'i maa qad sabaq; wa qad aatainaaka mil ladunnaa Zikraa
﴾100﴿ Man a'rada 'anhu, fa innahoo yahmilu Yawmal Qiyaamati wizraa
﴾101﴿ Khaalideena feehi wa saaa'a lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati himlaa
﴾102﴿ Yawma yunfakhu fissoori wa nahshurul mujrimeena Yawma 'izin zurqaa
﴾103﴿ Yatakhaafatoona bainahum il labistum illaa 'ashraa
﴾104﴿ nahnu a'lamu bimaa yaqooloona iz yaqoolu amsaluhum tareeqatan illabistum illaa yawmaa
﴾105﴿ Wa yas'aloonaka 'anil jibaali faqul yansifuhaa Rabbee nasfaa
﴾99﴿ Thus, We relate to you some of the stories of what has passed, and indeed, We have given you a reminder (the Qur'an) from Us
﴾100﴿ Whoever turns away from it will surely carry a burden of sin on the Day of Resurrection
﴾101﴿ They will abide therein forever, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a heavy burden
﴾102﴿ The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and We will gather the criminals that Day with their eyes turned blue
﴾103﴿ They will murmur among themselves, You only remained for ten days
﴾104﴿ We are most knowing of what they say when the most reasonable of them will say, You did not remain except for one day
﴾105﴿ And if they ask you about the mountains, then say, My Lord will completely pulverize them into dust
[99] From this verse to the end is the second part of the surah. In it is a detailed warning about the Hereafter in sixteen aspects, along with good news in verses (109, 112). There is encouragement toward the Qur'an and a strengthening of resolve in proclaiming monotheism. Then again, the story of Adam (peace be upon him) and Iblis is mentioned as a means of salvation from forgetfulness. Again, there are warnings about the Hereafter and worldly warnings as well. Then follow the etiquettes of calling others to the truth, along with the subject of monotheism. Then there is reproach, and a statement of the wisdom behind the sending of messengers. In the final verse, there is a warning. This verse also contains encouragement, along with brief mentions of the incidents of the prophets—in all of these stories, the goal is reminder and encouragement. The word "reminder" also means revelation and the Qur'an. The word "Anbā’" refers to grand and significant matters; not all details of the stories have been mentioned.
[from 100 to 104] In this verse, there is a warning about the Hereafter for those who turn away from the reminder of the Qur'an.
"Wizard" refers to a heavy burden, while "Himl" generally means any load.
"Zurqan" refers to eyes becoming pale along with blackened faces; in a second meaning, it refers to the blind; and in a third meaning, to the extremely thirsty.
"(You stayed but ten)"—the meaning is that the common polytheists, due to intense dread, will estimate their worldly life as ten days, and their leaders will estimate it as one day due to even greater dread.
The word "ten" is used because it is the upper limit of a small plural.
"The best among them"—the most intelligent among them will say it was only one day, because the more alert a person is, the greater his sense of awe; and the more heedless and foolish he is, the less he feels it.
The point of all this is that they will say: our time and life were short, so we are excused for falling into disbelief and polytheism—but this excuse is contrary to reality.
[105,106,107] This also relates to the warning of the Hereafter, and in this context, it describes the scene of the gathering on the Day of Judgment, specifically the removal of mountains from the earth.
Benefit: In the Noble Qur'an, where the phrase "They ask you" is mentioned, the answer usually does not include the particle "fa." But in this verse, it does. The reason is that in this verse, "in" is conditional, meaning: if these people ask about the mountains, then give this answer.
So it is understood that the disbelievers had not yet asked this question, while in other places where "fa" is not used, the questions had already occurred.
The purpose of this answer is to address the doubt of the disbelievers: if they ask how the Resurrection will take place, considering how huge and firm the mountains are—how will they perish?—then their question is answered in detail.
"Then He will leave it" apparently indicates that the entire earth will not perish, but rather its form and appearance will be transformed. This is the opinion preferred by many scholars. Alternatively, the pronoun may refer to another earth that will appear after this one perishes, which is the view of other scholars.
