رُبَمَاٍ 617 اَلنَّحْل
وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ لَا يَبْعَثُ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَمُوتُ بَلَى وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۳۸﴾ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِي يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا كَاذِبِينَ ﴿۳۹﴾ إِنَّمَا قَوْلُنَا لِشَيْءٍ إِذَا أَرَدْنَاهُ أَنْ نَقُولَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ ﴿۴۰﴾
﴾38﴿ Wa aqsamoo billaahi jahda aimaanihim laa yab'asul laahu mai yamoot; balaa wa'dan 'alaihi haqqanw wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa ya'lamoon
﴾39﴿ Liyubaiyina lahumul lazee yakhtalifoona feehi wa liya'lamal lazeena kafarooo annahum kaanoo kaazibeen
﴾40﴿ Innamaa qawlunaa lishay'in izaa aradnaahu an naqoola lahoo kun fa yakoon
﴾38﴿ And they swore by Allah their strongest oaths that Allah will never resurrect those who have died. But it is a true promise binding upon Allah, though most people do not know
﴾39﴿ (And He resurrects) so that He may clarify for them that wherein they differed, and so that the disbelievers may know that they were liars
﴾40﴿ Indeed, Our word concerning anything We will is only that We say to it, 'Be,' and it is
[38] In this verse, there is a warning regarding the denial of resurrection after death, following the refutation of shirk. This indicates that both shirk and denial of resurrection are foundational aspects of disbelief. The phrase "وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ" shows that the polytheists would at times swear by Allah the Exalted.
The phrase "جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ" indicates that the polytheists considered an oath by Allah to be a strong and binding oath. It is astonishing, then, that some of today’s ignorant people regard oaths by saints (awliyā) as strong and binding, while paying no attention to oaths made by the name of Allah the Exalted.
[39] This verse is connected to an implied phrase in the previous verse. Its full understanding is through the implied statement: "Rather, He will surely resurrect them so that..." (بلى ليبعثنّهم ليبيّن). In this verse, two benefits of resurrection are mentioned:
1. Clarification of disputed matters through a decisive judgment. This benefit is also mentioned in verse (92) of this surah. The concept of decisive judgment ("يفصل") is also expressed in verse (113) of Surah Al-Baqarah and verse (141) of Surah An-Nisa’, as well as in other verses.
2. To make the disbelievers realize with certainty the falsehood of their claims—those claims mentioned earlier in verses (24), (35), and (37) of this surah, along with other false statements made by the disbelievers.
[40] In this verse, the resurrection is affirmed by highlighting the creative power (قدرت تکوینی) of Allah the Exalted. A similar expression is found in verse (82) of Surah Yā Sīn. Here, the affirmation is conveyed through the phrase "His Word" (قول), as a response to the false claims and statements of the disbelievers—emphasizing that, just as Allah creates by merely saying "Be," He will also resurrect in the same manner.
