﴾37﴿ Allah, the Exalted, said, "Then surely you are among those granted respite

[33] This response of his was out of envy and arrogance.
[34,35] In these verses, the punishment of Iblis is mentioned:
First, his expulsion from Paradise, from the company of the angels, and from the heavens.
Second, his being stoned (rajm), which means being disgraced and driven away from the court of Allah the Exalted—or that he and his offspring are struck with flames.
Third, the punishment of being cursed until the Day of Judgment.
And on the Day of Judgment, there will be eternal punishment.
This is also mentioned in verses 77 and 78 of Surah Sad.
[36] This too is among his great crimes—that he did not repent, but instead asked for respite in order to mislead mankind.
Iblis intended by this request that he might escape death, because after the Day of Resurrection, there is no death.
These are the people who will be alive at the time of the first blowing of the trumpet, and then they will perish afterward.
[38] From this, the perishing of all mankind on that Day is intended—thus, it is indicated that Iblis too will die at that appointed time.
That “appointed time” (وَقْتٍ مَعْلُومٍ) refers to a moment whose conditions and descriptions are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. It does not mean that the exact date is known to creation, because the knowledge of that is exclusive to Allah the Exalted.
