Relevancy: This surah is connected to the previous one, as in Surah Yunus, rational arguments were presented on the subject of monotheism. In this surah, narrative evidence from the stories of the prophets is provided to support the same subject. Another connection is that while the previous surah focused on the concept of monotheism, this surah emphasizes encouragement for its propagation -
Claim of this surah:
The first is the rejection of shirk (associating partners with God) in worship, mentioned in the second verse, The second is the rejection of shirk in knowledge and authority, mentioned in verses 5 and The third is encouragement and motivation for the propagation of monotheism, mentioned in verse 12, The fourth is providing reassurance and comfort, mentioned in verse 17 -
Summary of the surah:
It is noted that in this Surah, there are three sections. The first section extends up to verse (24), and it includes an encouragement toward the Quran, four claims of the Surah, a warning to the deniers, a mention of the Hereafter's fear for the disbelievers, and glad tidings for the believers -
In this verse, after mentioning the miracle of the Qur'an and encouraging adherence to it, three attributes of the Qur'an are described. The first attribute, "أُحْكِمَتْ آيَاتُهُ" (its verses are firmly established), has several meanings:first Its verses are filled with wisdom, secnd The verses are firm and flawless, free from deficiency or corruption, third This book will not be abrogated by another book - The second characteristic (ثُمَّ فُصِّلَتْ) (Thumma Fussilat) means that it has elaborated on the principles of monotheism and fundamental matters. The word Thumma is either for sequential mention (indicating sequence in expression) or means that it was revealed gradually and step by step, The third attribute is that (مِنْ لَدُنْ) (min ladun), meaning that this book is firm because it comes from a Wise One, and its elaboration is due to the fact that it comes from an All-Aware source -
In this verse, the claim at the beginning of the surah is that none should associate anyone with Allah the Exalted in worship, and it also affirms the truthfulness of the Messenger,q The phrase "أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا" meaning so that you do not worship .This indicates that the main purpose of the Quran is to refute polytheism -
