وَاعْلَمُوا 431 التوبة

اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِنْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِقِينَ ﴿۸۰﴾ فَرِحَ الْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَافَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَقَالُوا لَا تَنْفِرُوا فِي الْحَرِّ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا لَوْ كَانُوا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿۸۱﴾ فَلْيَضْحَكُوا قَلِيلًا وَلْيَبْكُوا كَثِيرًا جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿۸۲﴾

﴾80﴿ istaghfir lahum aw laa tastaghfir lahum in tastaghfir lahum sab'eena marratan falany yaghfiral laahu lahum; zaalika bi annahum kafaroo billaahi wa Rasoolih; wallaahu laa yahdil qawmal faasiqeen
﴾81﴿ Farihal mukhallafoona bimaq'adihim khilaafa Rasoolil laahi wa karihooo ai yujaahidoo bi amwaalihim wa anfusihim fee sabeelil laahi wa qaaloo laa tanfiroo fil harr; qul Naaru jahannama ashaddu harraa; law kaanoo yafqahoon
﴾82﴿ Falyadhakoo qaleelanw walyabkoo kaseeran jazaaa'an bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon

﴾80﴿ Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness (it is the same), even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah Almighty will never forgive them This is because they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Allah will not guide the disobedient people
﴾81﴿ These survivors are happy to sit (from Jihad) in opposition to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and they think it is bad to do Jihad with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah Almighty And they say to other people, Do not go out in the heat (for Jihad) Say, The fire of Hell is more severe in the heat If only they knew (So ​​they wouldn't do that)
﴾82﴿ So let them laugh for a little while and weep for a long time. They will be recompensed for what they used to do

[80] In this verse, the address is to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) and the believers, and it contains a warning for the hypocrites that their repentance or forgiveness will not be accepted.
There is a difference of opinion among scholars about the beginning of the verse:
Some scholars say it is meant to completely shut the door of hope for the forgiveness of the hypocrites, so seeking forgiveness for them would be of no benefit.
Others say it was a choice given to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
The hadith in Sahih Bukhari supports the view that it was originally a choice, but later it was abrogated by verses 84 and 113 of this same surah (Surah At-Tawbah).
(سَبْعِينَ) – does not literally mean "seventy" in this context. In Arabic, such numbers are often used to indicate a large, indefinite amount.
“Seven” is considered a number that encompasses the full range of numeric qualities, so Arabs often say "seven" or "seventy" to express emphasis and abundance.
For even stronger emphasis, they sometimes use seven hundred (سبعمائة).
[81] This verse is also a warning to the hypocrites, and it mentions four of their disgraceful traits:
1. Staying behind from jihad – is a sin in itself.
2. Disobeying the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace) – is the second sin.
3. Rejoicing over their disobedience – is the third sin.
This trait is also found in innovators (mubtadi‘in) who are pleased with actions that go against the Sunnah.
(الْمُخَلَّفُونَ) – Although they were left behind from jihad, this expression actually indicates the anger and punishment of Allah.
It means that Allah caused them to be left behind, as mentioned earlier in verse 46.
(خِلَافَ) – can mean opposition (i.e., in opposition to the Prophet), or behind (i.e., staying back). It functions here as a purpose clause (maf‘ūl lahu).
(يَفْقَهُونَ) – refers to having true understanding of the difference between the world and the Hereafter, and between their hardships and pleasures.
Such deep awareness is called true understanding (fiqh).
[82] This verse is also a warning to the hypocrites. The commands in the verse are not literal commands, but rather statements of fact and warnings.
Similarly, (وَلْيَبْكُوا) – though it appears in command form, it is meant as a declaration and warning.
The meaning of (قَلِيلًا) is the world – meaning: let them laugh a little in this short worldly life.
The meaning of (كَثِيرًا) is Hell – they will weep a great deal in the Hereafter due to punishment.
The meanings of laughter and weeping here are taken in their literal sense, though it’s also possible they metaphorically refer to joy and grief.
Note: Smiling or laughing without loud bursts (qahqaha) is authentically reported from the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) and his noble Companions.
However, excessive laughter is the practice of the foolish.
