يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَيَأْبَى اللَّهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يُتِمَّ نُورَهُ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ ﴿۳۲﴾ هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُ بِالْهُدَى وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ ﴿۳۳﴾

﴾32﴿ Yureedoona ai yutfi'oo nooral laahi bi'afwaahihim wa ya'ballaahu illaaa ai yutimma noorahoo wa law karihal kaafiroon
﴾33﴿ huwal lazeee ar sala Rasoolahoo bilhudaa wa deenil haqqi liyuzhirahoo 'alad deeni kullihee wa law karihal mushrikoon

﴾32﴿ They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah does not will except that He perfects His light, even though the disbelievers may abhor it
﴾33﴿ Allah Almighty is the One Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it prevail over all religions, even though the polytheists may dislike it

[32] This is another reason for fighting. What is meant by "the light of Allah" is the religion of monotheism, and what is meant by "with their mouths" are baseless words. "They intend" — the intention here refers to striving, and it is similarly used in verse 8 of Surah As-Saff. The phrase "that they may extinguish" is mentioned without the preposition "lam," which indicates that extinguishing the light (brightness) is their main goal.
[33] In this verse, the completion of the light is stated, as well as the truthfulness of the final Prophet. What is meant by "guidance" (huda) is the fundamentals and beliefs, and "the religion of truth" refers to rulings and practical branches. "That He may make it prevail" — this pronoun refers either to the religion, meaning that Islam will prevail over all other religions. It is dominant through evidence in every era, and will be dominant through authority at the time of the descent of ‘Isa (peace be upon him). Or it may refer to the dominance of the religion within the Arabian Peninsula, which was realized during the time of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
