إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَى وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ وَهَارُونَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَآتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ زَبُورًا ﴿۱۶۳﴾ وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنَاهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَمْ نَقْصُصْهُمْ عَلَيْكَ وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًا ﴿۱۶۴﴾ رُسُلًا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنْذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا ﴿۱۶۵﴾
﴾163﴿ innaaa awhainaaa ilaika kamaaa awhainaaa ilaa Noohinw wan nabiyyeena mim ba'dih; wa awhainaaa ilaaa ibraaheema wa Ismaaa'eela wa Ishaaqa wa Ya'qooba wal Asbaati wa 'Eesaa wa Ayyooba wa Yoonusa wa haaroona wa Sulaimaan; wa aatainaa Daawooda Zabooraa
﴾164﴿ Wa Rusulan qad qasas naahum 'alaika min qablu wa Rusulal lam naqsushum 'alaik; wa kallamallaahu Moosaa takleemaa
﴾165﴿ Rusulam mubashshireena wa munzireena li'allaa yakoona linnaasi 'alal laahi hujjatum ba'dar Rusul; wa kaanallaahu 'Azeezan Hakeema
﴾163﴿ Surely We have sent revelation to you as We sent revelation to Noah (peace be upon him) and the prophets after him.
And We sent revelation to Abraham (peace be upon him), Ishmael (peace be upon him), Isaac (peace be upon him), Jacob (peace be upon him), and the descendants (of Jacob), and to Jesus (peace be upon him), Job (peace be upon him), Jonah (peace be upon him), Aaron (peace be upon him), and Solomon (peace be upon him).
And We gave David (peace be upon him) the Psalms (Zabur).

﴾164﴿ And We sent revelation to many messengers whom We have related to you before, and to many messengers whom We have not related to you.
And Allah spoke directly to Moses (peace be upon him) — speaking (without intermediary).
﴾165﴿ We sent messengers as bringers of good tidings and warners, so that people would have no excuse before Allah after (the coming of) the messengers.
And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
[163] This is the answer to the previous question — it is a detailed response.
The meaning is that the revelation to this Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) is like the revelation to previous prophets; the purpose of all is tawḥīd (monotheism) and removing people’s excuses.
The method was that revelation used to come to them little by little, except for the Torah.
Similarly, revelation came to this Prophet gradually.
Since the explanation of tawḥīd and refutation of shirk began with Noah (peace be upon him), it started from him, and ten prophets are mentioned by name, and the rest are mentioned generally.
(Zabūrā) — this was mentioned separately because it did not contain laws, but rather praise of Allah and exhortations.
[164] The detailed stories of many messengers were not made known by Allah to the last Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) — so it is clear that he was not given comprehensive knowledge of every prophet.
(There is a weak narration that says the total number of prophets was one hundred and twenty-four thousand.)
(Taklīman) — this verbal noun indicates a special kind of speech from Allah; it was not just ordinary revelation, but real speech — one of Allah’s attributes.
This also indicates that other types of revelation (besides the Torah) were sent to Moses (peace be upon him) gradually.
[165] In this verse, the purpose and wisdom of sending the messengers is mentioned — that is, to remove people’s excuses, as found in verse (124) of Surah Ta Ha and verse (47) of Surah Al-Qasas.
(Ḥujjah) means excuse or argument, because if Allah had not sent the messengers, no one could have established any proof or excuse before Him.
Indeed, only the excuses accepted by Allah are valid.
