لَنْ تَنَالُوا 131 آل عمران

قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ تَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۹۹﴾ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تُطِيعُوا فَرِيقًا مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ يَرُدُّوكُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ كَافِرِينَ ﴿۱۰۰﴾ وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللَّهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُ وَمَنْ يَعْتَصِمْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدْ هُدِيَ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ ﴿۱۰۱﴾ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ ﴿۱۰۲﴾

﴾99﴿ Qul yaaa Ahlal Kitaabi lima tusuddoona 'an sabeelil laahi man aamana tabghoonahaa 'iwajanw wa antum shuhadaaa'; wa mallaahu bighaafilin 'ammaa ta'maloon
﴾100﴿ Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo in tutee'oo fareeqam minal lazeena ootul Kitaaba yaruddookum ba'da eemaanikum kaafireen
﴾101﴿ Wa kaifa takfuroona wa antum tutlaa 'alaikum Aayaatul laahi wa feekum Rasooluh; wa mai ya'tasim billaahi faqad hudiya ilaa Siraatim Mustaqeem
﴾102﴿ Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanut taqul laaha haqqa tuqaatihee wa laa tamootunna illaa wa antum muslimoon

﴾99﴿ Say, O People of the Book: Why do you turn away from the path of Allah those who believe, seeking to make it crooked—while you yourselves are witnesses (to its truth)? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
O believers! If you obey a group from among those who were given the Scripture, they will turn you back, after your faith, into disbelievers.
﴾100﴿ O believers! If you follow a group from among those who were given the Book, they will turn you back into disbelievers after you have believed.
﴾101﴿ And how can you disbelieve while the verses of Allah are being recited to you and His Messenger is among you? And whoever holds firmly to the religion of Allah has indeed been guided to the straight path.
﴾102﴿ O you who believe! Fear Allah as He truly deserves to be feared, and do not die except in a state of submission (accepting the oneness of Allah).

[99] This is another warning due to leading people astray, after previously mentioning their own misguidance. The meaning of “ʿiwajan” here is to cast doubt and raise objections. The word “ʿiwaj” with a fatha on the letter ‘ʿayn (عِ) is used for physical objects, while with a kasra under the ‘ʿayn (عِوَج) it is used for abstract matters.
[100] This is a prohibition against following the People of the Book, after mentioning their evils—meaning that following them leads to apostasy.
[101] This is another reason for forbidding the following of those people. The point is that the Noble Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Messenger (May Allah bless him and give him peace) are present, so there is no excuse or justification for disbelief. Although the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace) has passed away and his physical presence is no longer among us, the essence of his prophethood remains—meaning his religion and Sunnah. The phrase “bi-Allah” (with Allah) refers to reliance on Allah or acting according to His command, and by it, what is meant is the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger.
[102] From this verse up to verse 129 is the third section. In it, five principles are mentioned for organizing the Muslims, spreading the religion, and striving in jihad. After that, two parables are given. The purpose of this verse is to emphasize being firmly established in the belief of Tawhid (oneness of Allah) until death—this is the first principle, and it is called self-reformation (islāḥ al-nafs). "Ḥaqqa tuqātih" (as He truly deserves to be feared) refers to the fear associated with Tawhid, because even a polytheist fears Allah, but they also fear others alongside Him—so that is not rightful fear. Therefore, rightful fear means refraining from sin as much as possible, and it is essential for monotheists to adhere to complete taqwā (piety) while maintaining belief in Tawhid. "Wa lā tamūtunna illā wa antum muslimūn" means: Remain steadfast upon Islam until death.
