002_124 surah 2: Al Baqarah

﴾174﴿ Innal lazeena yaktumoona maaa anzalal laahu minal kitaabi wa yashtaroona bihee samanan qaleelan ulaaa'ika maa yaakuloona fee butoonihim illan Naara wa laa yukallimu humul laahu Yawmal Qiyaamati wa laa yuzakkeehim wa lahum 'azaabun aleem
﴾175﴿ Ulaaa'ikal lazeenash tarawud dalaalata bilhudaa wal'azaaba bilmaghfirah; famaaa asbarahum 'alan Naar
﴾176﴿ Zaalika bi annal laaha nazzalal kitaaba bilhaqq; wa innal lazeenakh talafoo fil kitaabi lafee shiqaaqim ba'eed

﴾174﴿ Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has revealed from His Book and exchange it for a small price—they consume nothing in their bellies but fire.
And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment.
﴾175﴿ They are the ones who purchased misguidance in exchange for guidance, and punishment in exchange for forgiveness—so how astonishing is their endurance of the Fire!
﴾176﴿ This punishment is because Allah revealed the Book in truth, yet they differed concerning it.
Indeed, those who differed about the Book are truly in extreme enmity and far from the truth.

[174] In this verse, there is a severe warning for those who conceal the truth.
It refers to those who hide the truth and gain worldly wealth and benefits in exchange for it—meaning they conceal the truth out of greed for the world.
Thus, they are worse than those mentioned in verse 159, which is why four punishments are mentioned here.
(What they consume in their bellies): The phrase “in their bellies” is added to emphasize that what is meant here is actual consumption, not merely taking or acquiring, and also to indicate excessive eating to the point of fullness.
(And Allah will not speak to them): This is a metaphor for Allah being extremely displeased with them.
Although He will address them for accountability, it will be through the angels.
(Nor will He purify them): Meaning He will not cleanse them of their sins, nor will He grant them salvation from punishment.
[175] In this verse, two misfortunes of theirs are mentioned: first, their purchase of misguidance in exchange for guidance; second, the punishment of Hellfire.
(So how astonishing is their endurance of the Fire): This is stated in the form of amazement so that the listeners may be struck with wonder at their condition, and this patience is mentioned in a blameworthy sense.
[176] The cause of punishment mentioned here is their differing regarding the objectives of the Book of Allah, and this difference arose due to concealing the truth.
(He revealed the Book in truth): What is intended after this is “yet they differed,” because the mere revelation of the Book is not the cause of punishment.
And after that, their disagreement is mentioned.
(In deep enmity): Meaning such opposition in which all ties are completely severed.
(Far): Far from the truth by many degrees, indicating that they have gone so astray that not even a trace of truth remains in them.
