وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ﴿۱۲۷﴾ رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُسْلِمَةً لَكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ ﴿۱۲۸﴾ رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ ﴿۱۲۹﴾
﴾127﴿ Wa iz yarfa'u Ibraaheemul qawaa'ida minal Baitiwa Ismaa'eelu Rabbanaa taqabbal minnaa innaka Antas Samee'ul Aleem
﴾128﴿ Rabbanaa waj'alnaa muslimaini laka wa min zurriyyatinaaa ummatam muslimatal laka wa arinaa manaasikanaa wa tub 'alainaa innaka antat Tawwaabur Raheem
﴾129﴿ Rabbanaa wab'as feehim Rasoolam minhum yatloo 'alaihim aayaatika wa yu'allimuhumul Kitaaba wal Hikmata wa yuzakkeehim; innaka Antal 'Azeezul Hakeem
﴾127﴿ And when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and Ismail (peace be upon him) were raising the foundations of the House of Allah, they both said, “Our Lord, accept this from us. Surely, You alone are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
﴾128﴿ Our Lord, make us always sincere to You, and from our descendants a group who are sincere to You, and show us our ways of worship, and have mercy on us. Surely, You alone are the Accepter of repentance and the Merciful.
﴾129﴿ Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses, teach them the Book (Quran) and the sunnah, and purify them.
Surely, You alone are the Mighty and the Wise.
[127] In this verse and the next two verses, the fourth point is mentioned, which is the three supplications of Ibrahim (peace be upon him): the first is for the acceptance of deeds, the second is for remaining firm on Islam, and the third is about the final Prophet.
“The foundations” indicates that the Kaaba had previously been built but was destroyed, and only its foundations remained, upon which Ibrahim (peace be upon him) raised the structure, with Ismail (peace be upon him) assisting him.
“Accept from us” means that while building it, both of them made this supplication.
[128] In this verse, the second supplication is for steadfastness in monotheism and its practice among the descendants.
“Our ways of worship” refers specifically to the rituals of Hajj, but it can also generally mean acts of worship.
“From our descendants” refers to the offspring of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and Ismail (peace be upon him), so these are the Arabs and not the Children of Israel.
[129] In this verse is the third supplication and the second purpose in the story of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), mentioning three qualities and three tasks of the final Prophet: that he is an Arab messenger and a human, that he explains the Quran, teaches the Quran and the sunnah, and purifies them in beliefs and character.
Note: in “the Mighty,” all attributes of power and authority are included, and in “the Wise,” all attributes of knowledge are included, so these two encompass the attributes of Allah.
“Among them” refers to our descendants, indicating that the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) is a Makkan Arab.
“From themselves” refers to their descendants or the Muslim community, meaning that he is of their kind, a human.
“Recites to them” is in the manner of calling and conveying, “teaches them” is in the manner of instruction, the core of which is the teaching of the Quran and the sunnah, and “purifies them” is the effect of preaching and teaching, meaning to show the way of actions and character.
